Browning A5 barrel on a Remington Model 11?

Does anyone know offhand if a Remington Model 11 will take Browning A5 barrels?

I know that both guns are very similar at least but wasn't sure just how close they are or if there are any fundamental differences that would preclude any parts compatability.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

"Browning barrels will not work in Remington or Savage, and vice versa. The big stumbling block is the ejector. On the Remington and Savage the ejector is a single hook brazed to the rear of the barrel extension. On the Browning the ejector is a pair of hooks. The bolts of each are slotted to fit their proper ejector. The wrong barrel won't clear the bolt and the ejector will get hammered if you try. "

"Barrels of the Remington and Savage shotguns have a limted potential to be interchangeable, due to the shell stop cam cuts. The cam cuts are veveled notches on the exterior of the barrel extension. They work the cartridge stop that prevents a second shell from feeding out of the magazine. Slight variations of dimensions through the decades allows some barrels to work in both models. Like I said 'some'. Most do not. The only way to be sure is to try it. First, try feeding dummy rounds, and if that works then test-fire. The better idea is to buy the correct barrel for you gun."

Well, that answers that then. :)

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I guess that leads me to question #2 then:

How common are Model 11 barrels? I did a bit of poking on the web and was coming up dry. Sarco had a fair listing of parts but no barrels or stocks, mostly small parts. I have checked Gun Parts Corp yet though.

There is one way that a browning barrel can be used in a Rem 11. You remove the barrel extension and place a Rem 11 extension on the barrel. I have done this and it is not an easy job. There is a new barrel on Ebay at this time for the Rem 11.

So far you have been given really good info...The A5 barrels will not 'easily' fit on a Model 11...I have been told (and read) that they can be modified with milling, but I have no idea how...

I do know that the Remington Model 11 barrels are interchangable with all of the 'Savage/Stevens/Springfield clones...

http://www.hewittgunshop.com/Barrel%20Lists/12rem11.htm

Do NOT listen to the models listed on the top of that page...It states that the barrels will fit the 520/620 and as these are pumps, that site is slightly off...The models that will interchange with a Model 11 that I am pretty darn sure of are the 720/745/755/775 and all their 'letter' variants...My 775A Springfield was one of the latest variants made without a 'hump-back', and the barrel is a slip-in interchange between my 1921 Model 11...

Barrels also come up quite often on eBay and gunbroker.com

Sincerely Hope This Helps

Sorry to bring this one back from the dead, but I have a question. I recently acquired an extra Model 11 barrel from Ebay. Problem is it won't function the action, the shell from the magazine hangs up. The extensions appear to be different from my barrel and the new one I got. Is there a source for extensions so I can salvage this newer barrel? My shotgun is early to mid 1920s manufacture.

I guess I could. The whole idea by getting the new barrel was to have two barrels and I could put the shotgun back in original condition if I wanted to. I should have asked this question a couple of weeks ago, I was just through your part of the country. We usually overnight in Jackson when we go out to Oklahoma to visit family.
