Hi
Hunted antelope in unit 74 also outside of riverton. We were unable to get a room due to the oil workers haveing them all booked.
How many doe tags per man do you have? I believe you can have up to 4 per man. I would suggest calling and see if any are left for unit 74, since you are right there, and there are so many antelope your hunt can be over very fast.
If you plan on using a butcher you will have to drive to Lander, about a 30 minute drive from riverton. At least that is how far I remember it being.
If you take proper care of your antelope you will have some of the finest meat available. We built a winch system that slid into the hitch of my truck allowed us to hang, skin, gut in that order. Keep the hair off and out of the meat as much as possible and carry alot of ice to cool them. We would stuff 2 bags of ice into each critter and got them to the butcher. Also if you are going on the opening week be aware that Lander hosts the one shot antelope hunt and the butchers cold box fills very fast. We heard how bad antelope taste but it is now my favorite.
I would think that the majority of the area will be blm and I see no reason to pay to hunt. There is a over abundance of antelope in that area. Also as I stated above you can get left over doe tags on a first come first serve basis. We just called a sporting goods store and gave our credit card and the sent the tags to us. It was a great deal at $29(two years ago) I think the left over tags are now $39 each
I hope you have great trip.
pm me if you have more questions
Jeff
