Nice looking pattern GLS, it looks like 9's pair well with the 410.

I doubt much of anything would get through that pattern without sustaining several hits. :D :D

Your reload, or is someone making these in a factory load?

It's a handload. Hawglips supplies the shot and recipe. I'm not aware of any commercially available loads in 18 g/cc HTL. This is a turkey load.

Isn't #9 shot awfully small for turkey? I have never hunted turkey before, so I am just wondering.

Yes -would seem that way to me too. I use 4's in the hydra shock
Course if it is close enough it should work

Tungsten 9s are lethal turkey shot at normal ranges. It has the same penetration at 60 yards as lead #4s (not a normal turkey range). Lead density is 11 g/cc compared with tungsten's 18 g/cc. Depleted uranium is 19 g/cc. For comparison, there are 585 lead 9s in an oz. There are 362-376 tungsten 9s in an oz. The high density/low drag profile gives it the penetration. At 40 yards it will completely enter and exit a turkey's head and neck. I prefer closer shots. Here's a link comparing lead, tungsten, etc. with shots at sheet metal at 40 yards.:

Thanks GLS, I learned something today, I would have never thought #9 tungsten would be equal to #4 lead, how do the prices compare?

It's pricey. Best price I can get is just under $50/lb. Lead's definitely cheaper by a mile or two. ;) Too expensive for anything but turkey hunting and possibly light loads for waterfowl. A buddy shoots a 3/4 oz. load for woodies and it passes through them 30-35 yards. It has changed the game for me turkey hunting as far as guns go. A 20 gauge is all one needs shooting this shot. If it doesn't take special dies to load it that would make the 28 ga. Y gun a fun turkey gun. Tell us the particulars.
