thanks jlptexashunter.
thought this would be neat if we could post pics of slug guns on here instead of them getting covered up in threads. i know some of you have some nice setups.

Here are mine. My main slug gun is a Mossberg 500, 12 ga., 20" barrel, Carlson's rifled choke, Boyd's thumbhole stock, toped off by a 1.5-4.5X32 Tasco. The NEF 20 ga. does first string duty as a small game getter and back up to the Mossberg incase something happens. Never hurts to have an extra gun.
I will add pics of groups after I shim the action and make it out to the range again.

Here is my most recent slug gun.
It's a Stevens 38B 410 bolt action shotgun converted to a slug gun. Three round box magazine. The 24 inch full choke barrel that was cut down to 22.5 inch cylinder bore. Fiber optic rifle sights epoxied to the barrel. The wood carving was there when I got it.
The is me, my Winchester 9410 and the first deer I took with my Win 9410 and 410 slugs back in 2003. 8-Pt, about 125lbs field dressed.
This is me, my Winchester 9410 and the second deer I have taken with a 410 slug. 10-pt, abut 140lbs field dressed.

My Christmas present. I mounted the scope last week. 12 gauge winchester 1300, 3'' mag, 22' fully rifled barrel.
I will be sure to post each grouping when I go to the range to sight in my scope (have about 6 different slugs to try).
picture quality is poor due to it being taken with my phone.

This is one of my babies...Remmy 1100 2 3/4 inch....it wears the Hastings w/ muzzle brake in this photo ( now wears the straight Hastings w/o muzzle brake). It shoots great. Has a Nikon 4x40 and target acquisition is very fast. I love it for stand shots up to 100yards.
Saving for a project so I may let this one go....

Listen fellas: I just got off the phone with Remington. I had a question about the date of mfg. of a certain Express, wanted to know if I had an older Express that was a 3 inch magnum receiver. I knew the barrel would accept 3 inch shells cause I know how to check that. Wasn't sure about the receiver though because it is NOT stamped MAGNUM in huge idiot proof letters. My best measurments and a few tricks of the trade had me 99% convinced it was indeed a 3 inch receiver. Best to find out so I called Remington. Sure as God made little green apples there were a number of Express 3 inch barrels and receivers made that DO NOT SAY MAGNUM in idiot proof letters one can see at 100 yards with the naked eye. This older Express is a ral nice older gun with very dark birchwood stock, checkering, and looks like the day it was made. It has a 20 inch barrel with sights, smoothie of course. While I was talking to "Tom" at Rem. H.Q. we got on the subject of sabot slugs and rifled barrel accuracy. Guess what? "Tom" said the SAME THING greg and jc have been saying for years. You are NOT going to get 2 inch groups from any swtich barrel gun, not ever, unless you shoot enough and get one out of pure fickle luck. I told "Tom" that my best groups at 120 were with Buchhammers and Rem corloct 385's, running 4.5 inches. Tom allowed that was pretty darned good from an 870 with rifle, cantalever/scope outfit. He doubts much better can be had without tricking out the gun significantly. He did suggest trying Barnes 328 sabot slug, ( I don't know what that is?) that a number of shooters have reported consistant 2.5 to 3 inch 100 yard groups which would make that load a 150 yard bambi getter. Tom agreed 2 inch or better is only going to be done with a solid BOLT action gun and ammo that gun prefers. Makes perfect sense to me. There ya have it. A Remington guy tossing hype out the window and talking shooter to shooter. I'm going to share a "secret" with you guys to help save a little frustration. You ain't NEVER going to get great accuracy from the Lee or Lyman 525 slug. Not ever. You are using the WRONG SHOTCUPS! Always have been. You are trying to make a shotcup fit only for birdshot do the work of a sabot and it ain't ever gonna work. Disagree with me? Fine. Put up your pics and loads. I still have only seen two pics of groups, both honest and sincere. If I'm going to shoot a moothie for deer I'll use the best foster slug load I can get (Brenneke K.O. so far) and sight in at 75 yards and check fives hots at 100 to determine if there is any sense in tossing lead that far. 75 is doable with ease, 3 inches and better and that with open sights.

Jaeger106,

I'm not sure which two pics you are referring to, but I hope that 1 was mine...I couldn't get logged into the forum when it switched and had to change my username... was "TheMoose" now "TheMoose1". The group #7 that I posted in response to Neo's challenge was from a load I worked up with my own Lyman cast 525 and a wadcup meant for birdshot(Fed 12C1).. I admit it surely isn't the best 5 shot group ever, but 4 of the five in less than 2.5"... the group was shot with a Remington 11-87 with a Remington cantilever mount rifled barrel... the only thing extra done to it was a trigger job and I put on a Limbsaver barrel dampening ring meant for rifle bull barrels.

90 and 95yds killzone hits, she was walking 3/4 towards for the 90, running 3/4 away for the 95. 100yd group, rested. Gun has been consistently under 3" ctc since new in 1995 with this weird combo of rifled choke and Brenneke

Using a Browning 12 ga BPS, Hastings cantilevel with ProPoint with Winchester Platinum sabots at about 1300fps. Just a few pix from a few years back...got the gun in 1997 and been using it ever since...probably 20+ throughout the years with this gun. My son have had very good times hunting together especially when you see sights like these from our tree stand. 4 in 04 all within about 5 seconds with 6 shots... This one at 147 yards... tender and tasty... my boy trying to out do the ole man...he did.

I was shooting Winchester 12 ga. Super-X 2 3/4", 1oz. Power Point slugs out of my Maverick 88 with a 24" smooth bore RS barrell. I shot 3 of the pigs in the picture at 40 yards, all head shots, all one shot kills:

This sticky is dying. I check regularly to see if anything new has been posted, so Ill post the only thing I feel I have of value (my slug gun is an ugly beast so I wont bother And no real groups which I havent all ready posted). I have a new toy in the leaf river ir-3bu and feel compelled to post some pics, so here it goes. One red stag in the early stages of velvet. (Click to view full size didnt want to take up a ton of page space). I thought not being a species found in the U.S you may want a look. Can I make a request for some in return of game like elk, moose, bear, mountain goat etc. I have only had the camera a couple days and im really enjoying using it, so much so that I have ordered a decent stealth cam to acompay it . Ill post a couple more when I get them. ATB. David.
