It appears that the 682 has a setscrew placed so the O/U selector switch can't be moved, AND it also appears the safety is fixed in place in the OFF position-- I can't move it foreward or aft, and when the gun is closed the triggers can be pulled and pins fire... Is this a normal modification made to dedicated skeet guns? And if so, can the safety be made to function correctly-- I don't like having one gun without a safety, and I may want to hunt dove with it and want that safety functional.

I'm thinking that setscrew may both hold the barrel selector from moving AND hold the safety in the OFF position, thought I'd check here before messing with it.
Thx

I believe you are correct. I have seen that in the combo guns that have a single barrel. It keeps the selector set to fire whichever trigger fires the single barrel.

I'm not sure the set screw would prevent the safety from moving to the on position though. That just might be stuck. You could remove the set screw to see but you might need the remove the stock and see what the problem is

Give Ed Anderson a call at the Beretta Gallery in Manhattan (New York) he is the head gunsmith there and very knowledgeable, especially about Berettas. He will help you.

Where is the setscrew located? About two months ago, I had a guy complaining about the safety not working on an old Superposed trap gun. I took the thing home, pulled the stock and found that someone had drilled and tapped a hole crossways in the upper tang. The installed setscrew held the safety selector in the off position and kept the bottom barrel permanently selected. I just removed the setscrew and everything functioned normally after that.

Why would you want the safety to function on a Skeet gun? Just something else to get in the way. My Beretta 390s have the safety completely removed. My others are all locked. The only reason my Kolar has a safety is because they won't make one with no safety.

For a target gun, there is no need for a safety.

He says d he'd like to use it hunting. The set screw keeps the barrel selector set to the top barrel first for when it has a single trap barrel. The safety would not be automatic like a field version.
