Can anyone on here recommend a gun dealer in Spain who has a website and is able and prepared to do overseas sales? I have tried Googling but without success. I have looked at numerous sites in the UK and spoken to several asking about what I want - a near new AYA model 2 in 12 gauge. There is no shortage of such guns in UK but their prices are quite steep and Britain seems to make exporting a gun a lengthy and probably expensive business. Before going ahead with what will be a major purchase for me I thought it might be sensible to see what is on offer from the country of origin. Any help much appreciated.

http://www.dianaviaji.es/

Diana Viaji is walking distance from the US Embassy in Madrid. They have English speakers available, do exports and have a great selection of guns. They are a little on the expensive side.

Also Armeria Espanola ( http://www.armeria-esp.com/ )stocks new AyA guns and do exports. I have not worked with them on exporting so cannot tell you how good they are, but they always seem to have a huge selection of used guns as well as new guns. As for English speakers, I have never met one there.

You will need someone to receive. I recommend TR Imports ( http://trimports.com/ ) for your importer. Reasonable prices and extremely capable. Before you begin the process, contact TR Imports and have them walk you through the process. It will prevent time delaying missteps

I was just going to say the same. What an absolute fount of knowledge Chorizo is!
Thanks very much Chorizo. By the way I am in New Zealand where personal imports are very easy but I do have a friend in Wellington (our capital city) who is a licenced firearms dealer who will take care of the import for me if necessary. Importing from the UK is easier through a dealer this end because the UK makes such a song and dance about what should really be a straighforward commercial transaction between private citizens.
Anyway in the meantime I have just placed a small bid (at the reserve price) on our local auction site for an Eusebio Arizaga boxlock that simply looks too nice not to try a bid.
And some good news this evening, my neighbour has just decided to plant about 50 acres of corn just behind my garden. We grow very little grain in this part of New Zealand these days - we are a major wine producing area - and I am hoping this acreage will attract some of the large flocks of pigeons that live mostly in town but which travel out to the surrounding countryside to feed. I stand ready to protect the crops!!

I don't wish to hijack this thread, but as chorizo appears to have personal knowledge of many gun shops in Spain, I was wondering if he can recommend any that cater especially to the pigeon shooting crowd? Places where one could find some used Spanish live bird guns for the tiro de pichon.

Diana Viaji had the most guns of that bent and had several serious pigeon shooters in their employ. The store also had the biggest selection of top quality, high-end used guns. I recommend you start with Diana Viaji.

Most stores cater to the hunting crowd. Armeria Espanola, for example, even has a "Hunting Museum" in Toledo (lots of trophies).

Another small shop in Madrid walking distance from the US Embassy I used to go to that always has interesting used guns (I bought a Mendicute 16ga from them that is my pride and joy) is ARMERÍA ÁLVAREZ Capitán Haya, 60 MADRID / Telf. 902 105 500. They have another store in La Coruna (NW corner of Spain) I used to visit when paying calls on the Spanish Navy Bases.

Like others, I'm amazed at your knowledge of Spanish gundealers and was hoping you might help me out with a slightly different problem. I am one of those poor souls with a Dakin imported Gaspar Arizaga (20 gauge, SXS, 26" barrels, box-lock, single, non-selective trigger with action based on the Anson Deeley system) made in Eibar in the mid-50s or early 60s. It is a beautiful little gun that handles like it's alive, but like many of its brethren it has trigger problems. The gunsmith who examined it said one of the sears was improperly angled but was beyond his ability to repair (he suspected someone had tried to modify it in the past). Unfortunately, finding parts is about as easy as finding Sasquatch. I have a number of inquries in and have even contacted Grulla in the hope that they might be able to point me to some source in Spain. So far, no results. Gaspar Arizaga was around for a long time before it fell victim to the DIARMS experiment, and it would seem that someone, somewhere, would have a supply of parts. San Francisco-based Dakin advertised complete parts availability in the 60s, but it is no longer in the gun business and I cannot find who purchased their inventory. It certainly seems likely that someone in Spain would possess these parts, so if you or anyone else has any useful ideas I would be grateful to hear them.

what are you looking for in an AYA #2. Would you consider a used one?

I feel your pain.

I lost $450 back in the early 90s on a Gaspar Arizaga imported by Dakin. I had the same exact problems. I had the gun converted to double triggers in the hope that it would solve the trigger problem (mine doubled all the time). Unfortunately, the conversion did not help. What I realized next was that the parts had not been properly hardened, the sears were so soft they could be bent in my hands. The sear angles were also sloppy and cut incorrectly. The work to properly harden all the parts, recut the sears, etc... at the time, and probably today, far exceeded what the gun was worth. It is sitting in my dad's gun cabinet and he likes it because it looks nice, but I hate to think about it.

That gun was my first hard lesson in Spanish guns.

PS: Good luck finding parts, but realize that even if you found them they would have to be hand fitted by a competent gunsmith capable of building guns. Heck, such smiths capable of making the parts, but it is going to cost you.

MReed53,

I am no better off than others here... I'm trying to find a gun part myself. However, it sounds as if you only have a worn part. If you are willing to do a little work, you should be able to get the gun back to firing condition.
Here is the obligatory statement that it is YOUR responsibility to make sure it is safe, but that is the same situation you are in every time you pick up a gun. I'll bet very few people check the clearance on their sears when they buy a used gun.

I assume your gun is doubling?
Find the part that the trigger pushes up to contact the sears. It is generally a notched piece and you will be able to see the wear on it. Take that part out. What needs to be done is add a little height to the metal at the contact point. This can be done by tapping with a peening hammer or you can have a welder add a drop of metal at the proper point. Unless someone has butchered up the gun (unlikely as you said you had been shooting it), you will probably only need to raise the steel 1/32". File it smooth, being careful not to remove too much metal. Reassemble and test. File it back until the triggers release one at a time. DON'T ROUND OFF THE EDGES! Note that the action screws have to be tightened in the stock to the original position. Count the turns as you take the stock off. Test safety by slapping the butt of the gun hard to see if the sears can be discharged by impact.

I doubt you will want to do this yourself, but it is what you need to tell a gunsmith. If you can't find a gunsmith to do this, you are talking to the wrong guy. As you can see, it is a simple procedure that only takes patience, something most lack. David was right about too many worn parts making repair cost prohibitive, but I doubt you have more than one. If a sear has been bent, it doesn't have to be replaced. Just heat it and straighten it out. I think you were talking to people who knew these repairs could be made, they just didn't want to do it. That being said, you should be willing to pay a fair price for honest work if you like the gun.

Thanks for the solid advice. Based on what the gunsmith told me it is indeed the one sear that is the problem, and it is not securely engaging. I think you also hit it on the head when you said I was "talking to people who knew these repairs could be made, they just didn't want to do it." This particular smith is not a shotgun specialist; in fact, he specializes more in handguns while doing other general work. I was given a good line by an older fellow at a recent gun show on another gunsmith not too far from my area who does specialize in double guns. I haven't talked to him yet, but when I do I will be sure to include your information. It jibes with some other information I'd dug up, but yours is much more detailed, concise and clear. Really appreciate your response, along with all the others provided by the folks on this forum.

Just an FYI, in case anyone is looking for these parts. While running a search on gunbroker.com for 20 gauge Gaspar Arizaga parts I came across a new listing out today for a parted-out A. Zabala 10 gauge. Doesn't do me any good but I thought I'd pass it along, in case anyone here could make use of it. Lord knows you don't see many Spanish shotgun parts of any kind showing up very often. These just posted in the last 24 hours. Can be found here: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =309943262

Love how it's listed as a "Spainish" gun.
