Are most wads for taper hull or what.
Remington, Winchester, Federal should be for a straight hull!
Rem are rp20,r20 ... is same as rxp20 ,and sp20.
Most 2 3/4 hulls are all tapered but 3 " are straight is that correct?
So you should use tapered wad in tapered case?Is that right?
Thanks

From what I have seen it is not as critical in the 20 gauge. Alliant shows loads for Remington wads in Federal hulls, and vice versa. No loads for the AA hulls with Fed wads, but all hulls can use windjammer wads.

NO!! It's not all that cut and dried. (Generally). And generally speaking, all Winchester and Remington wads are for tapered wall hulls. Generally speaking, Federal wads are for straight walled hulls. After market wad makers make wads for both.

Additionally there is data around that states using tapered wall wads in straight wall cases, and vise-versa. Such data may not be the best performers, but are in published data, none-the-less.

It's up to the reloader to recognize those irregular specifications and deal with them as they find necessary. Some work acceptably, and some don't. Makes it hard on the newby, but that's just the way it is. The best deal is to use the loads that specify wads that you know match the hull type that you are using. You won't get into trouble doing it that way.

You might also state what hull you are interested in loading, how much shot, primers, etc.. I'm sure several people will tell you what their favorite loads are. The more limits you put on, the fewer loads people will have.

I have about 150 rxp rem hulls, 100 (old)AA,200 (new) AA and lots of federal hulls
Sporting clay loads 7/8 oz with Winchester primer is about the only primer that you can get around here now and i have about 250 federal 209(old kind)and rem 209 (old) primers. The powder i have is IMR 4756 and unique powder.
Thanks
