Are you a Newbie to reloading? Read this!

Key Components any new reloader should have:

1. A good scale - Never trust the bushing charts or expected drops. Always weigh with a good scale a few consecutive drops to ensure you're using the correct powder charge for your application.

2. Always use published or tested recipes - The Lyman Shotshell Reloading Handbook is a great resource as well as the various powder manufacturer sites. (Powder Manufacturer links can be found in the FAQs and Reloading Data/Support topic.)

3. If you want to figure out the cost you are saving by reloading, you can use this Shotshell Reloading Cost Calculator

4. Here is an excellent article on The History and Art of Shotshells.

That's desperately needed,
good job..

Perhaps the FAQ should answer no questions,
instead, just put a link to the "SEARCH" page.

Hey, SShooterz, great job.

One suggestion - an outline form may make it easier for the new folks to follow. For example, indent numbers 1 & 2 so it's clear they're not top-level nav links, indent the powder links under #2, etc. In html a <blockquote> would do that, but I'm not sure of the syntax for bbcode.

Nice work. Looks like this'll keep it all organized in one sticky.

SShooterZ: Things are starting to look really great -- you've obviously been putting in some time :) The front page already looks more streamlined and I imagine that''s going to continue as you do more.

Looking ahead a bit, I'll offer a few more suggestions:

> Once things have settled down it might be worthwhile to delete all these comment entries and lock this thread (assuming those acts are possible) so that there's a nice "clean" intro for the newbs (maintaining moderator access so that you can add/update).

> It might be useful to put the powder company links on a separate page, i.e.

"2. Always use published or tested recipes - The Lyman Shotshell Reloading Handbook is a great resource as well as the various powder manufacturer sites:"

Click here for Powder Manufacturers' Links

That way, when you get to doing a more "advanced" link/sticky you can reference it again in that one.

> A similar comment on an FAQ section. Having it as a stand-alone page would allow reference in both sections so that someone looking at a load in the "advanced" section might be a bit more inclined to check there before simply posting a "gee this load called for xyz hull, but can I substitute abc hull?" type question.

Great work and thanks very much for the effort!!!

Thank YOU guys for the input.

Added another Announcement and made some adjustments to this one.

I'm thinking we should add input to the Brainstorming Thread and I'll clean this one up...

You might want to add a link to www.reload-nrma.com There are pages on "How to reload both shotshell and metallic", "Find an NRA-certified Insturctor", "Books and Videos" and links to "Manufacturer's websites and their recipes."

A good place for newbie's to start.

1. Yes, go to http://www.google.com
2. In the search box type in the following: site:www.shotgunworld.com reloading
(where reloading is the keyword i'm searching for)

Thanks for the great links and a great information source!

I'm a shotgun load newbie, and although I'm reading a lot & researching as much as I can, I hope I can contribute more helpful things later as I also get a few questions answered here & there!

Thanks!

You know, I think posting the SAAMI Maximum pressures for each gauge, would be excellent in that very same post.

I agree with Nadoman, and have all the powder brands sights bookmarked on my computer. You can always trust the companys web sights for good recipes.

Follow this link; viewforum.php?f=73

That will be the "Other" forum in the For Sale section. Hit the "New Post" button in the upper left corner and a new window will open. It's best to post your location ( a Zip Code is okay)
unless your price includes shipping.

Hope this helps,
Dave
