This gun is sometimes used for preserve chukar over dogs. Most shots are inside 25/ 30 yards. I'm using 3/4 ounce of #8, 2 dram STS target loads. What choke would you use with that load in that situation? Thanks.

I would go with shot a little larger then #8, but my experience with them over pointing dogs has been VERY close shooting. Skeet or Improved Cylinder should be more then enough.

I shoot IC/skt or IC/MOD for all my birds, from chukars to pheasants.
I use 71/2 nickel shot also.
For pheasants and chukars in open country I use 7/8oz loads, for ruffies in tight cover I use
a 3/4oz skeet load.
I've shot chukars and pheasant s WAY out there with a 28, BTW, with IC, absolutely no problems.

I've hunted preserve chukars several times and most of the time it's been with a 28 gauge. I've always used 7 1/2 shot with either cylinder or skeet choke. I've not lost a bird.

I would use 7 1/2 shot; for chokes, I'd use the most open I have for my 28 ga., Sk/Sk.

For me in 28ga I use 3/4oz on Preserve birds(quail or chukar) with 7 1/2 or 8 shot. Use cyl and skeet in the second bbl. as I have been shooting quail for 60 yrs now and birds just don't get that far off be it wild or preserve.

AA 7 1/2 Target Load (they're available at my local WalMart) and Improved Cylinder choke in a Remington 870. I do a lot of preserve hunting and use the 28 gauge AA load and Improved Cylinder choke for everything.

I have always shot 81/2's with a cylinder choke in bottom barrel and a skeet in the top. Never had problems with set birds.

For preserve birds I choke sk/ic. For wild birds I choke ic/mod or mod/mod. I love hunting upland birds with the 28 gauge.

I would use skeet/mod which gives me 20/30 yards of perfect patterns. I use 7/8 oz of #7 1/2 shot for chukar, #8 1/2 for quail. HHD

I am limited to one preserve chukar hunt. I used Remington Nitro Permier 7 1/2s with cylinder and modified chokes. I don't see why any 7 1/2 target load at 1200 fps wouldn't be just fine. If all I had was a skeet or similar for the first shot, I'd still use it. The modified is more of a theory than a need for the second shot I'd say. I am slow on the uptake so my second shots are farther than they should be. I shot seven of eight shots with first barrel so it is the more significant choice, in my opinion. I can't wait to try pheasant with an ounce of 6s in a new 30 inch Beretta Silver Pigeon II. I suspect the above load would work too, but I love to tinker with loads.
