Hey,
This is my first time posting, but I use the forums as a guide very often. Anyways, I have a lefty Remington 1100 with a 30 inch barrel on it. I have basically converted this shotgun to a self defense shotgun, and have a speed feed stock and forend on there. I also decided that I was going to put a 18.5 inch barrel on it so I ordered one from Remington not even realizing that I needed to get a left handed barrel (honestly didn't know there was a difference until I got it). So my question is are there left handed 18.5 inch barrels out there or really any short smooth bore barrels? I have looked everywhere online and have come up short.

You will not find one. Take it to a gun smith and have the barrel cut and choked ..I think one of the boards moderators Mike Orlen....does them..

If I have the 30 inch barrel on the gun right now cut will I have issues with the gas port? I noticed on the 18 inch barrel there are 2 gas ports opposed to 1 on the 30 inch.

You have a magnum barrel apparently for your gun.
All this means is that you have to use pretty heavy
loads in order for the gun to cycle properly. Light
loads may not have enough gas pressure to operate
the action. I would just use the gun as is, for defense.
There is no rule that says you have to use short
barrels when shooting someone. In fact the long
works better in many ways. I don't have any
really short barreled guns, in my house, but
I would have no problem using one of my long
ones for defense.
