Post subject:  Ithaca 51 20 gauge

I picked up a Model 51 today. Looks to be virtually new. Very little wear on the inside. Outside the receiver is perfect and only handling marks on the wood. SN is 510057269. I have buffers and springs coming. The barrel is a 28" vent rib, full choke. The barrel mikes a little over .716" at the muzzle, so in theory it can be fitted with chokes. But I would prefer a 26" vent rib with chokes. I have Colonials in my Red Label. I will have to see about getting another barrel and having chokes installed. Any suggestions. This is my third Model 51, all 20 gauges. The first a 2 3/4" 51 was stolen in Wichita Falls, Texas, The second was a 3" 51A I traded off when I bought my Red Label. The 51A had "issues" with replacement barrels. I still remember the shock of shooting a 3" 1/14 oz load in my Red Label for the first time after trading off the 51A. Felt recoil was significantly greater in the Red Label.
