You have my deepest sympathy on that issue. I don't think I could live in the South zone for that reason. Alabama's North Zone always starts in September. Used to start in mid September. Last year it opened at the beginning and a lot of crops were still in the field. Give me a holler next year and we'll find you a place up here.
Regards,
Jay

Your right...ALOT of the crops were still in the ground in Georgia to..due to the rain...were even harvesting late here due to rain......
I appreciate the invite...DON'T BE SURPRISED if you get a message about August from me   .....AND....If you quail hunt...I might can return the favor...I am going to be training my Brittany for quail this fall(she will be (7)sevem months when the season opens) ...BUT...She is going to be on birds EVERY WEEKEND and some during the week , so hopefully she will develop quickly! 8)

Thanks
Sam

I went on a shoot that Jay announced last year just north of B'ham and it rained and was very muddy. Shot one bird and it fell into a pond and I had left my dogs at home. If they shoot it this year I am going to try it again. the hunt master invited everyone back the next week because of the weather but I had another hunt in Butler county. Pike county is not that far from you and it is in the north Zone. The best shoot I went on last year was in Montgomery county. We did not have the birds in our area last year. We would spread wheat and it would rain. I was the leading grower of wheat in the area. We finally gave up and still have a ton of wheat in my friend's barn.
Sam, the preserves open Oct 1 and the owner of Shiloh in Elba loves to work with young dogs so you get 2 for the price of one.

I had to think about that one for a while.....
Here's what I came up with and it's just speculation....
We have conservation officers that are wildlife biologists. I had my gun checked by one. I believe they have input on deciding these dates and its based on some field observations and research. I believe the good ol boys making the decisions in Georgia were put there by good buddy politicians and good buddy people in power and they lean heavily towards tradition. Does that make sense to you?

You know...I really didn't think about it that way..But it makes alot of sense...Could have been put in place years/years ago and just has never been changed...Because something thats been in place for years can be hard to have changed when you know the "right people" to fight it!!....And I am working with an Ala state biologist now on some of my property..I think i'll run that by him to see what he says.....Yeah I can see that happening with the "good ole' boy" buddy system in Georgia or any southern state for that matter
Thanks for the thought Scooter

Sam
