There are some key pieces of info missing for you on the East side of the state the most important of which is Whttington Center near Raton, which has sporting(24 stations) ,5-stand(2),trap(8-10) and skeet(6-8).It also has nice inexpensive housing.Soon to be opening is the sporting course at Del Norte Gun Club NW of Albuquerque.Lok for fun shoots there in late spring with terraine to beat the band.Lubbock used to have a sporting course SE of town that was quite challenging.

snakejim here in Roswell, NM.
We have a very nice skeet club with 4 fields (Chaparral Skeet Club), nice club house, etc. The NM State Skeet Championships will be held here this fall. I forgot the dates. We are open every Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon or by appointment.
We also have a nice trap club next door (Pecos Valley Gun Club), with 2 fields. We throw std trap singles, doubles and wobble. We are open Sunday afternoons.
Across the road (Hwy 70, 7 miles NE of town)we have the Roswell Gun Club with 9 ranges for about everything you can imagine. Members and guests only.
The only thing we don't have is a sporting clays range.
We will have a Sporting Clays fund raiser this fall for the Boy Scouts on the old Chisum Ranch at South Springs se of Roswell this fall. We hire a fellow from Fort Worth, Texas who brings a large trailer with automatic traps and sets up a course that's totally awesome. I don't know the dates yet. We had it last year at the Circle Diamond Ranch in the Hondo Valley and there were 95 shooters and it was a blast!(pun intended)
If you are in the neighborhood, check us out!
It's a lot of fun and great people!
Best wishes!
SnakeJim :D

I am in Artesia. Hope to start shooting at the clubs in Carlsbad and Roswell soon. I hear they have a Trap shoot every Sunday in Carlsbad. I think they may have a SC range too, though I am not sure of its size, etc. I have a cousin who shoots SC in Midland and plan to check that out this year. All I have ever really done is hunt with my shotguns, but plan to get into clays this year. Also, I know they have a silouhette competition in Hobbs, rimfire only, that I plan to check out this year. They have a nice rifle range there for high power, out to 400 yds. Check in at Gunn's Guns for info. Here in Artesia we are still in the planning stages, but going to have a nice rifle, shotgun and archery range soon.

Greensock,

Good to see a fellow Artesian on the board. Perhaps we could pay Rattlesnake Jim a visit in Roswell at the Chaparal Skeet Club sometime.

greensock,

We're getting a bit off-topic, but I instruct Basic Handgun, Shotgun and Rifle at the US Border Patrol Academy at the FLETC in Artesia.

The Del Norte Gun Club (northwest of Rio Ranch,NM) Sporting Clays program has taken off well. March 2006 was our first monthly fun shoot and had 25 shooters. Our last 5 monthly shoots of 2006 we averaged 65 shooters. This year looks promising already as our Jan. 2007 shoot had 80 shooters and all finished the course in 3.5 hours or less. Next shoot is Sat Feb. 24 and starts at 11:00 Am. Twelve stations and 100 birds. The non- member price is $35 with a $5 discount if you call a reservation in ahead of time to 505-239-2486. By the way all shooters 18 or under with a shooting adult are $15.

Hope to see some of you there.

I'm in Alamogordo and I shoot skeet and trap on Holloman AFB. Judging from all the cool spots up north, I may have to move. Wow, I had no idea of all the shotgun areas up north.
I really want to check out the skeet range at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso.

Yes they still have skeet and trap on Holloman.
I was the range master there for about a year or so.
I think it's only open on weekends.

I don't know about traveling for dove, but I would certainly venture out of my neck of the woods for quail!

Greetings boys,
Im in the S/W in the Membres country. About 20 mi. out of Silver City. About three hours out of El Paso, four from the big town to the north. I have been going south of Lordsberg for dove and only as far as the porch for quail. Oh, call me lazy or lucky.....

Hello, South-west....
Let me introduce myself first. I am fairly new to trap, not to good at skeet yet. Getting OK with trap. Was really humbled by 5 stand. I live in Raton, NM. And I am new to SGW.

A few posts ago, someone mentioned the Whittington Center. I shoot there fairly often and know most of the guys out there. I think it would be fun get some folks together there. I think it would be do-able too. If anyone would want to do that I could work it on my end to see what we would need to do to get on the schedule.

You can PM me. I check here every couple days so I might not get back to immediatly.

We do have a humble little T/S outfit here. With the same stalwart half a dozen, in all weathers, every Sat. morning.
Mostly, we just have to put up with killin' stuff.
