My brother is looking to move to sho low. Anyone familiar with the area? Bird hunting any good over there?

I've lived in Show Low for 30+ years. There are opportunities for ducks and geese during the waterfowl season, a 2 week dove season in September and some places at higher elevations around the area that hold small populations of Blue grouse. He will be within 2-4 hour drive of fantastic dove hunting in the deserts along with 3 species of quail to chase. Hunting for wintering ducks and geese in the deserts can run from good to fantastic depending on how much rain we get during the year but it takes a lot of time and effort to locate the areas where the birds are. Hope this helps.

uplanddan I know this thread is almost a year old but was wondering if your brother ever made the move to Show Low? If he did how does he like it up there?

Dan we're in the midst of one of the worst droughts in recent memory. Since the first of Oct 2017 we are down almost 10" from normal precipitation. That may not seem like much to some folks but considering our normal for that time period is just under 13" things are popcorn dry around here and we have another 2 months of fire season to go before our rainy season starts. It's as dry or dryer than it was in 2002 when we had the big Rodeo/Chediski fire up here.

Almost the entire state is in Stage 2 fire restrictions. No campfires, no wood or charcoal grills, propane only, no smoking outside of buildings or cars and yet we've still had wildfires caused by people leaving illegal campfires unattended. We still have 2-1/2 months to go before our monsoon season starts. I know they won't but I sure wish the Feds would just close down all the national forests in this state until we get some significant rain.
