Central Virginia Sporting Clays
What we are
Central Virginia Sporting Clays (CVSC) is a shotgun facility located in Palmyra and close to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello estate. We are located in the beautiful foothills of the Shenandoah’s just south east of Charlottesville. The facility features a 13 station sporting clays course, 5-stand, and wobble trap. Amenities include a club house, rental guns, and free hand carts – a “pavilion” we be available in the summer of 2009, and will provide a state of the art gathering area that can be enclosed or opened depending on the weather. The club is open to the public. Our hours are Saturday 9am to 5pm, and Sunday 12 noon to 5pm. We are available weekdays by appointment to individuals or groups.
Our facilities
All of our courses (sporting clays, 5-stand and wobble trap) are fully automated and support either individuals or groups. The 13-station sporting clays course provides two different target presentations at each station, and is changed monthly for our “fun” shoot. The 2nd Saturday of each month features our fun shoot where you can register your targets with the NSCA and also win “punches” to move up in class. The fun shoot fee also includes a burger and/or hot dogs for lunch from the grill.
The sporting clays course winds through varied terrain to provide open air “sky” shots as well as a “hilly” area where the terrain enhances the shooting experience to make it an authentic shooting experience.
The shooter will enjoy varied targets from chandelles, teal and quartering targets in the open areas, and to include those, and others such as rabbits in our ravines and hills. Brad primarily sets the targets based on his experience in competitions, but we also have outside target setters involved to ensure variety. The 5-stand and wobble fields are shared to support either game individually, or can be combined to add the challenging wobble target to the 5-stand venue.
What we host
We host private groups as well as fund raisers. We have had private groups including family reunions, bachelor parties, corporate events and others. The fund raisers have included non-profit organizations such as the 4-H club, where the proceeds recently went to sending their members to a national shoot. A large party tent is available and, as noted above, a large pavilion is under construction. The events can either be catered privately, or burgers and hot dogs cooked on the grill and served with beverages and snacks. The events have provided a lot of fun for the attendees both on the course and off the course through the social gatherings following the events.
