Anybody know anything about the legacy escort semi automatic shotguns? Are they a good buy? Know anything about the warranty?

Thanks a lot

What would you expect from a $250 Turkish autoloader? Ain't gold plated, that's for sure. My last Turkish made shotgun exploded in my hands because of a broken firing pin.
Better save another $300 for an Italian semiauto like Franchi or get a pump like Remington 870 Express for only $50 more

I'm a dyed in the wool 870 Express fan if you want a really good, really cheap shotgun. We all know they work. And you can hit flying targets and birds with them. But they are a pump.

I don't know anything about an Escort. They may work great. They may have problems.

The only cheap new auto I have any experience with is the Charles Daly 280 dollar Wal Mart special. I have about three or four buddies that own them, I've shot them, and they go bang every time, and are well balanced, nice handling shotguns. My freinds report no problems, but then again, they have lots of shotguns and don't pound the poor Dalys with thousands of rounds of ammo a month, either. All in all, I'd say it's a really good auto for the money. Comes in 20 and 12 gauge flavors, sold at finer Wal Marts everywhere.

The Mossberg 930 can be had for $350 online and the low $400's at retail. It puts all of the imports to shame in terms of quality, reliablity, and servicability. Plus its Made in the USA

Of all the Turkish guns, I have heard the best of the Escorts. I had a CZ which had problems blowing up because of a firing pin issue. But I put the updated designed pin in and never looked back. That gun never gave me a bit of trouble.

But I agree, for a little bit more Mossber 930. It is American, Mossberg parts are cheap, and I feel the quality is better.

I posted a full review with lots of pics about this gun in december. Try the search facility for 'Hatsan Escort' or 'Impulse buy' or similar.
I love this gun, originally bought on impulse as a budget gun, it has turned out to be the suprise of the day. There are always one or two lemons with any product, but its funny how this gun gets so much bad press mostly from people who have never even seen one, let alone shot one.

Respectfully submitted.

Kevin,

I respectfully disagree with you to this extent. The one I had, repeat had, was not a fun gun to shoot. It has gone through quite a few hands since it left mine. The FFL has made much transfer money on it. Granted it will eat almost anything you throw at it. Goes bang. Problem is: In all my 50 or so years of going bang, I have never been punished like that 2000 did me.

It really didn't matter which end you put to your shoulder, you get the same damage. I think Ev Butler had the same experience with one he bought. He gave his to his son who quickly disposed of it to some poor unfortunate.

I want a gun that I enjoy shooting. Won't give me a worse flinch than I already have. That 2000 would be a great HD gun as it did go bang without fail. For the field, not for me. I can't with good conscience recommend something that I won't use.

I have a Verona 405 auto that I picked up for $199.00 on clearance from Gander. I didn't expect much from this Turkish shotgun and it had some problems with the follower and I fixed it for a whopping $2.97 for an aluminum follower. It functions great. . .it is now the H&R Excell auto and sells for much more.

The Hatsan Escort is one of the biggest selling semi autos of the last year over here.

I have not fired one, but they are reputed to be very good for the money and I have not heard of problems associated with them. They seem reliable enough to stand a battering.

I'm sure there are bound to be some guns that have problems but that can happen no matter what gun you buy.
