Hello

What kind of shotgun does Michael Douglas use in the movie Romancing the Stone??
Is it a Remington?
What gauge?

Google is your friend. I did some searching and found a site where the owner claims to have the movie prop gun used in Romancing the Stone.

The Site is: http://www.spatcave.com/screenused.htm

And here's the picture he has (with no description):

Nobody seems to care  but.....

It was an 870 and that picture doesn't look like the gun in question to me.

That picture is not a pistol grip. It's a full stock that has been cut down. Same goes for the barrel.

Seems like a waste of a WingMaster if you are going to cut off most of the stock and barrel.

I have shot 870's for 32 years and am very familiar with the,

My mental illness is such that I remember trivia, while forgetting important stuff like things at work

I recall a close-up of M. Douglas' hand when he pops the safety on the gun, the shape of the guard and the saftey looked like an 870 to me.

The gun in the movie appeared to have a shortened butt stock, not just a pistol grip. It also had a cut down barrel that I thought still had a vent rib on it.

There was a seen where he was shown stuffing shells into the gun's mag, about 1/2 a box. You only saw the gun from mid-fore end back in this seen. I am sure, off camera, you would have seen the mag cap was removed and the shells were falling out the end of the mag tube.

It was a waste of an 870 Wingmaster :(

The gun in question was a left handed 870 wingmaster. It had a cut down stock and sawed off vent rib barrel. The picture that "Casual Shooter" has is NOT the gun used

It was definitely an 870. I remember the scene as well when he loaded the gun and reached his finger around to the front of the trigger guard to depress the slide release. I agree that the photo above is not the way I remember the movie gun. I know it was definitely not a cut down stock, as he wore it in his backpack with the grip near his head. I thought it looked like the originally full length stock. I also remember the barrel had been cut back to the magazine cap. Maybe the gun above was used in a non shooting scene as a prop? I don't recall it being a left handed shotgun though. Guess I will have to watch the movie and see. I own it on an old VHS tape.
