These may be stupid questions, but here I go. Is nice shot tungsten? For reloading one and a eighth ounce loads what would be the cost per shell? Is the shot metal readily available?

It is a composite containing tungsten, actually non-recycled tungsten, and so is safe for "lead only" and all other barrels. Essentially, it is a lead substitute: http://www.niceshotinc.com/.

See: http://www.ecotungsten.com/online-store.html for bulk orders. About 25.83 / lb., a dollar ninety something per 1-1/8 oz. load is what I get, or a dollar sixty something w/ 1 oz. payloads.

Fiocchi Tundra 1-1/4 oz. loaded shells are $30 / box of five, or $6 a shell.

Randy,
The dollar sixty and dollar ninety sounds great, if the cost stays below two dollars per shell the future is bright for nice shot pellets. I always thought tungsten products to be hard and brittle, it amazing me that the pellets can be flattened. I will give it a try, reloading sure would be better then the thirty three dollars a box of kent tungsten matrix.

Where can you find Matrix for $33/box, last time I looked they were well over $40.
So much for my favorite shell

Expensive yes, eventually that is all you will be able to use. I only take two trips to South Dakota each fall so cost is really not a issue. In Minnesota there is talk of non toxic on all WMA, much like South Dakota. I want to find a non toxic 7 1/2 for grouse hunting because most my hunting is done on WMA or state land.
