ok, primarily, i reload european powders but niceshot data does not exist. so, i can get hold of some hodgdon longshot. i planned to do some 1,1/8oz loads with it anyway. could i reload this recipe and still be safe? 12gauge, Shell: 2 3/4" CHEDDITE PLASTIC SHELLS Lead Shot 12gauge 1-1/8 oz. Longshot powder Ched. 209 Fio. TL1 36.6grains 9,800 PSI 1530fps. i think i can find an equivalent to fio-tL1, there are a few wads. something like the gulandi wads. is "Niceshot" loaded by volume or weight? as can load either. any input would be great. cook

All smokeless shotshell propellant charges are by weight, never originated by volume.

cheers randy, i actually ment "niceshot" i`ll ammend that.
i`ve found another recipe that i can get all the components for... Load# 110214-2815 HIGH SPEED HULL: FIOCCHI 12-gauge 2.75” PRIMER: FIO616 PROPELLANT: HODGDON LONGSHOT 36.0 Grains WAD: VP53 (Mica dust the wad) SHOT: 1-1/8 ounce (492 grains) NP#5.5 BUFFER: none FOLD CRIMP: 6-point Result: PSI 10000 FPS 1510
would this be safe to load with niceshot?

Posted in several places, Nice Shot loads very similar to lead. Hodgdon testing showed a max. pressure rise of 1500 PSI, though most loads were less.
SAAMI Shotgun Pressure Specifications
Shotshell Maximum Average Pressure (MAP) in PSI
10 gauge 11,000 12 gauge 11,500 (except 3-1/2 in.) 12 gauge 3 1/2 in. 14,000 16 gauge 11,500 20 Gauge 12,000 28 gauge 12,500 .410 Bore 2 1/2 in. 12,500 .410 Bore 3 in. 13,500
The rule of thumb is to subtract 1500 PSI, so in 12 gauge you would stick to 10,000 PSI MAP loads.

thanks alot. the issue i had was this... i`ve been told that running longshot with 1,1/8oz loads can have issues if run at below 10,000psi. unburnt powder everywhere. and bloop loads.. i`ll be running it in a benelli supernova, so could go to a straight lead>niceshot substitution.

Loudshot isn't a favorite powder; no reason for the noise and recoil.
I'd stick with 1250 - 1300 fps and use a more appropriate propellant: Green Dot, Unique, Herco, Int'l Clays.

Longshot a great powder, the extra noise is BS, and why would it recoil more than any other powder?

the fact it is a full 1,1/8oz load going 1510fps. more speed = more recoil. esp when compared to normal loads i use, 7/8oz at 1200fps.
