I am a classical music lover. They never go out of style.

A song that I recently heard, by accident due to riding with my son, "The Sound of Silence" was absolutely beautiful. I downloaded it and added it to my collection.

The only time that I listen to music is when I go to bed. I leave my player on low volume and enjoy the great masters until I fall asleep. It plays all night and I wake up refreshed ready to face the new day.

Are you telling us that you only just now heard the Simon and Garfunkel song, "The Sound of Silence"???

You've lead too sheltered a life my friend. There's a lot of great music out there. There's a lot of garbage too. Fortunately, we have a great deal of diversity on the radio.

Whoa... EV, I'm a classical music fan too, hell I've performed many pieces personally, but those horizons are meant to be expanded my friend.

On the classical music note, however, have you ever listened to any Percy Grainger?

He is a largely underrated English composer from the early part of the 20th Century. I like his work very much.

Yes, Doug. I do live a very sheltered life. I have little time for music except at night.

Phideaux, I haven't heard of Grainger.

I fell in love with classical music by the old masters during my teenage years and never fell out of love with them.

I heard the Sound of Silence when riding to a town board meeting with one of the officers who was trying to talk over his radio. I despise riding with someone and trying to out talk the radio. That song got my attention and I found a download for it and added it to my collection.

I find gospel music to be mostly boring, though I am a church member and have to sit through a few songs every Sunday. Like C.S. Lewis, I find gospel music to be third rate poetry set to fifth rate music. Very few gospel singers know how to sing and I've been to many church services in my 72 years.

Give me Mozart, Beethoven and the old masters any day of the week over country, western, and gospel music. The Phantom of the Opera is my absolute favorite with Andrew Llloyd Webber. There can be no better, IMHO.

More power to those who can stand the blues, drinking, divorce, drugs, depression, and falling in and out of love music. I just can't go there, Sorry!

I travel a lot between city halls and different LE agencies but I don't listen to the radio. I have some tapes of my music that I play on long trips but usually I am thinking about my next meeting and what the problems are that need to be solved.

I couldn't agree more. Still, music is one of the foundations of my life. I'm a mediocre musician and play the electric bass and some guitar, but just enough to get by for my church's worship team.

Did you know there was music when the world was formed?
Job 38:4-7 wrote:
4“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding,

5Who set its measurements? Since you know.
Or who stretched the line on it?

6“On what were its bases sunk?
Or who laid its cornerstone,

7When the morning stars sang together
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

While on break one day at work, we got to talking about silly things. The question was asked, "If you had to be deaf or blind, which would you choose?" Most everyone said deaf, but I said blind. They all thought I was crazy and couldn't understand why I would say that. Before I could answer, Lou, who never said anything, spoke up and said, "I know why, it's the music." He was right.

Shooting is my main hobby and I do it a lot. I like to ride my bike and play catch. I love God's beautiful mountain vistas, the lush green fields and spectacular desert sunsets. But, all of that without music wouldn't mean much to me.

I hear music in the wind and the stars. It's all around us and permeates our very being. When all around is chaos and I feel like I'm drowning, music buoys up my soul.

I love it all. I like Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto and I like Roll Over Beethoven by Chuck Berry. On any day you'll find Country, Jazz, Classical or Rock on my radio. I have very eclectic tastes when it comes to music. I just like almost anything as long as it's well played.

Here's a couple of my favorites. I don't know if you'll like them or not, but they are two amazing guitar players. Enjoy.

One more thing, if you haven't seen the movie August Rush, you need to.
