As you will recall, I graduated high school in LaPorte, TX, south of Baytown and near Clear Lake City. I remember when she went back to her alma mater and the press trashed her, yet again. Texas didn't much care for Joplin and, homely as she was, I loved her.

Just a couple of days ago I downloaded the first Lynyrd Skynyrd album, "Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd. " I play some electric guitar (albeit pretty poorly), and a friend who also plays said he was learning "Simple Man." I hadn't thought of the album in a long time, went into iTunes, bought Simple Man and then ended up buying the whole album. I had almost forgotten just how tight they were in those years before the tragic plane crash. The band was famous for its triple lead guitars (Gary Rossington, Alan Collins, and Ed King at that time), and of course, the vocals of Ronnie Van Zant, but overlooked was the keyboard work of Billy Powell. My favorite tune off that album is "Tuesday's Gone." Listen to Powell's synthesizer on that track. Great album, really enjoying listening again after all these years. Think I'll go buy Second Helping

I see some White Zombie fans out there. Right now I'm listening to their SuperSexy Swinging Sounds album. Remakes of their other albums with a different swing to them. Love it.
