Jimmy,
Are you making the 20 gauge chokes based on a .630 bore ?
I have your U3's in every other gun I have (only u3's (IM) , I don't see the need for any other), when checking with other makes like Comp N Choke (New- 20g Optima HP on their web site) they list specs as .625 bore and so do Briley, Kicks etc, the bore size on Beretta Optima HP 20 gauge is .630 , what gives.

Actually all of the barrels I have bore mic'd are actually between .624 & .626, so I make may chokes based off .625 also.
If your particular barrel measures .630, then it is abnormally large or the gauge being used is off.
So, my U3 should measure .602
And....just my opinion is the U3 is way tighter than needed for 95% of sporting targets in that 20 ga, I would mainly use U1 or U2, just my tested opinion.

Thanks for the reply Jimmy,
The 20 gauge is for shooting main events, tested the U3 in a Browning BPS 20 gauge and it's good for 15 yds to 65 yds, as is the same set up in the 12 gauge BPS (Clever 1oz at 1150).

Pattern is great at 35 yds (only shoot 7/8 at 1200 fps number 8's in 20), could not tell 20 from 12 gauge pattern on paper.

I will be shooting my Beretta A400 Xcel 20 gauge in every event this year, bore is stamped 16.01mm (.630314)the back up A400 Xcel is stamped 16mm (.629921) and 3 others I looked at are all marked 16mm, the IM choke from Beretta I'm shooting with now is .607, shoots well through 55yds (crossers, trap type targets etc), on paper it shows some pellet clumping though.

I like the Muller chokes as they perform as advertised and stay clean, in this case though I went ahead and ordered a choke from TruLock they list the A400 and SV10 20 gauge with HP chokes as .630 bore , we will see.

Not sure about the bore diameter of my a400 20 ga but after buying a u-1 I have yet to find a better combination.

What distance are you shooting ?, what ammo?, are you shooting it for main event or side events ? or back yard hand thrower, how does it perform on 35 yd crossers etc.
Your gun will be marked on the left side of the barrel as to bore size in mm's. My gun (as many) is a 30" Sporting A-400 Excel and is listed on Beretta web site as .629/.630 bore.

It is a .630 and is a 30 inch and does well on 35-40 yd targets the shells that work best for me are Winchester aa in 8 shot and clever 7/8 oz 8 shot speed of shell is 1300 aa and 1200 clever. I am just learning this shotgun thing been a rifle guy for 40 years, but I have had good success with this combo

Thanks for your reply, Clever is the go to load for me (7/8 at 1200), maybe you are having good luck with the U1 (.005 skeet choke, by bore size it's IC) because of the 1300 fps Winchester ammo, for me I want to know I have choke for any target (no changing chokes), Browning has the same bore size in 20 gauge (inv+) and I tested with a U3 and as noted above it's good through 65 yds.

Jimmy,
What does the U2 measure, .613 ? What about the lead in/ throat of the choke, the ones that Beretta send with the gun are .636 (not the bevel edge just ahead of that).
