I have never owned an over under and have been looking for a "decent" one for the past week or so. I found the Browning Citori White Hunter today for $1299 at Gander. (retail is $1799) I've looked at the Mossberg, Stoeger etc etc. I didn't plan on spending $1300 when I started but as you can see by the guns I was originally looking at buying I was starting at the lowest guns you can buy. (from what I've read so far) Is the Citori "White Hunter" a good over under to start with? This will be kind of an all around gun for now. A little trap, some pheasant and one more goose hunt in a few weeks. I liked the weight and feel a lot. The combination of that and the 3.5 chamber seems like it would be a good all around gun.....for the time being. I would really appreciate any input.....good or bad. Just be nice.

I can't think of a better choice for a quality "do all" over/under, and the price is good. The Citori is a high quality gun that can be used for a lifetime. I've seen some cheaper prices for new 12 gauge Citori's lately. I recall that there were some recent posts on Shotgunworld about new Citori's for $999. I bought a Citori Satin Hunter last year for $1100. Shop around before you buy, but $1299 isn't bad.

Your on the right track. Get the Browning. The price is good and it will out last you many times over. Browning and Beretta field gun are hard to beat.

I went through the same thing as you a couple of months ago. Looked at the Stoeger, Mossberg and cheap Remington O/U. Picked up the Citori White Hunter and it fit me a lot better than the rest of them and just felt better. Bought mine at Gander Mountain for $1299 plus got $150 worth of free ammo and a free gun case. I have only run a couple hundred shells through it but I really like the gun so far.

Yes, you're on the right track. That will be a fine gun for your purpose, much better than your other choices.

Yes! All Citoris are good and righteous, and their owners especially blessed.

Not only do I think you are on the right track, but I am proud to say I now know of at least one person who is not absolutely determined to buy the best $400 Over and Under that exists, in spite of people telling them that using the term "best" in that context is a total oxymoron.

The gun's a good one.Get it. BUT....be very careful of shooting 3.5 inch shells from a breach action gun (or any gun for that matter) as they will kick you so hard , you will want to cry.

On my mobile phone my answers are shorter, and may sound sarcastic.
A steel actoned Citori is honestly a good gun

The Browning is far superior to the others you mentioned.....make sure it fits you though. If not try a Beretta, most people find that either Browning or Beretta will fit them better--Beretta's fit me better so I own one, if Browning's fit me I'd own one of those too! I would also look at the used market, you can often get a used Browning/Beretta for around $1K that is a higher model gun.
DOn't rule out Ruger's as well....but if it were my moneuy it'd go to a BRowning or Beretta.
