Greetings all,

Found the board today after a week or so of looking for a good shooting forum. As it turns out I'm also from Texas! I have only been shooting a short time. (Shot my third round today. Yes, third) I had one lesson from an instructor, then in the next outing about 4 days later shot two rounds with him.

Today was my third round. I was fortunate enough to shoot not only with my instructor again, but with a legend in the skeet community (so I am told..) Charlie Hollman was his name. A wonderful person and quite patient with me. Anyone know of him? Was I in the presence of greatness?

Anyway, I haven't even picked up a shotgun since I was about 20 (I'm 49 now) so it's been a while. In that round with "Charlie" and my instructor I shot what we all thought was a 20. But Charlie swears he saw a chip fly from one that I thought was a pure miss. Charlie scored it a 21. Who am I to argue?

I was quite pleased and was really honored to be able to shoot with Charlie. I sure hope we get many more chances to shoot together in the future.

Cheers!
Mark

After being out of shooting for so long, what are your impressions. Like, with what kind of gun will you shoot skeet? Semi-auto, pump, o/u. Are you going to get into the clay sports as a serious endeavor? Are you hooked? Are you looking at reloading equipment? Are you planning your first tournament out of town? It's a sickness I tell ya.

I guess you could say I'm already hooked. I purchased a Winchester Supreme Field and one of those EAA Russian over/unders to shoot clays, and a Winchester 1400 semi for birds.

I already have a Lee Loadmaster and the Mec 600 is on the way. I've been shooting 7/8 oz #9 shot in a 12ga with IC and modified chokes. The skeet chokes are on order.

I'll have to decide as I shoot if I am progressing, and if I ca progress to the point of shooting consistent 95+ Only then will I make a serious decision about competition shooting. At this point I want to stick with skeet, add the traps in a month, then eventually some sporting clays.

Only time will tell....

Actually, the first bird 'hunt' is the first week of February. Not really a hunt though, it's more of a release and kill.

Next season I'll see about serious bird hunting....
