I am looking for new shotgun for sporting clays or maybe trap and skeet. I put up another post a few days ago specific to one gun but not to many replies. I saw the new Winchester O/U Supreme Select Sporting in their new catalog. I understand that F.N. in Belgium makes the gun for them. I have heard good things about F.N.. but I can't even find one to try it for fit. <br><br>Any other suggestions? I've looked at Browning but they are a little more pricey. Browning actually owns Winchester I found out yesterday and understand that F.N. used to make the Brownings before they moved production to Japan. I've looked also at Ruger Red Label, Baretta, Wetherby. I need to keep my cost around $1000. Any help would be great. <br><br>Someone suggested I get a field gun and use for sport and hunting. I'm leaning that way. I have a 20 gauge Remington Wingmaster pump and a 12 gauge Lefever double now. The Lefever should only be used with lighter loads. It was manufactured probably in the late 30's or early 40's. It was my grandfather's gun. I guess he took a lot of Pheasant with it many years ago. If I really get into this sporting clay game I can always go out and get another gun later just for sport. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks!! <p></p><i></i>

You listed all three clays games.....they all generally have different setups for the guns based on the way the shots are presented. A trap gun doesnt make a good skeet gun and vice versa. The sporting clays setups are more geared for a variety of shots and offer a better compromise to an all around gun.<br><br>If you are looking at o/u's a $1000 is short of the bottom end of the major makers base models price by several hundred. I was a gun smith for over 30 years, so when I look at a gun I might look at it different then you. I look at how it is built. If it has nice wood and ingraving all the better. When my son-in-law asked me last year what to buy, and knowing they didn't have much money I told him to go to Dicks Sporting Goods and get him a Verona. They are $599.00 and built better then some costing twice that. They have nice wood, silver reciver, and nice ingraving. They also have the largest hinge pins of any gun I have seen, and they are replaceable. I think it is made just for them. Gander Mountin sells the same gun with a oil finish instead of the lacquer finish for $799.00. Easy to get parts and chokes for. Go look at one. Will make you a good all around gun.
