I noted slight differences in dimensions between the stocks for the Kolar Max Skeet and the Max Sporting. I was just wondering if anyone could explain the reasons for these differences to me? The stocks generally come with an adjustable comb and options of an adjustable butt pad. Why would the starting dimensions be different between a skeet gun and a sporting gun?

Just a guess, since I haven't had my hands on a Max Sporting yet.

Skeet and Trap guns usually come with parallel combed stocks while Sporting guns usually come with some drop, like field guns, so that they're quicker to mount.

That being said, my guess is that the front of the comb is about the same on both models (so as to put the eye in the right spot in relation to the rib) while the rear of the comb is lower and the butt pad a lot lower on the sporting model.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sporting model wasn't just a tad bit shorter length of pull wise also.

Chris.

I just wrote to Kolar...apparently the 2012 models will not differ at all between the skeet and sporting models in terms of stock dimensions.

Interesting. I guess they feel the majority of people are shooting sporting with a pre-mounted gun now.

One of the great things about a Kolar is that you have the option of going there and getting fitted. Jeff Mainland does an awesome job of it. He made mine a nice rollover that would have cost me a couple grand from a custom stock maker. 8)
