I received this gun as a gift in 1969, so I know it is at least 40 years old. On the left side of the barrel is stamped "Revelation Model 300". Beneath that is "Patent Applied For". On the right side is "Proof Tested 410 Guage" and "3 Inch Chamber". The barrel has a full length ribbed sight; stamped underneath at the chamber end is "3 S". Stamped on the chamber near the magazine is "D D". There is an "engraving" on each side of two pointers in a field. I have not been able to find a serial number. Any info on the history, vaule, etc. is appreciated.

The Western Auto Revelation 300 shotgun was made by Savage/Stevens/Springfield, in Westfield, Mass (who made many guns for various US chain stores like WA, Sears,& JC Penny), & is the same gun as the Springfield/Stevens Model(s) M67/M30- most likely made prior to 1968, when serial numbers were first mandated by federal law (GCA-68).

Between 1949 & 1970, Savage date-coded all their firearms, on the bottom of the receivers and/or barrels, with a circled letter - Starting with "A" in 1949, continuing to "X" in 1970, skipping "I" & "O".

It's value would be as a shooter, and commensurate with both it's cosmetic, and mechanical operating, condition - ranging from a low of around $150 to a high of around $275, +/-.

Revelation was a trade name for firearms and ammunition manufactured by major gun and ammunition manufacturers and private labelled for sale by the Western Auto Stores. The Model 300 pump was manufactured by Savage/Stevens and corresponded to the Savage Models 30D, 30E, 30F or Stevens Model 67 depending on the year of manufacture.
These guns were manufactured between 1958 and 1978. The Stevens version was discontinued in 1989.

"Book" values of Savage Model 30E, D & F range from $75.- (poor), $100.-(fair), $150.-(good), $195.- (V.G.) up to $300.-(Exc.). Stevens Model 67's run about $20.- to $50.- less. As always, check the on-line auctions for current real-life prices being PAID for these guns in like condition.

FWIW, Western Auto was purchased by Sears, Roebuck in 1987 and later sold to Advance Auto Parts in 1998 with Sears retaining a 40% share of stock. By 2006, the Western Auto brand was history as stores converted to the Advance brand name although some of the franchise stores continued to use the Western Auto trademark and signs in violation of trademark infringement laws.
