Hello. I've been a member here for some time and I have learned a lot from this forum. Thank you. I have other types of firearms, but I grew up with a shotgun in my hands, so this forum is where I call home.

I have acquired two Browning B2000's and am at a loss to make sense of the serial numbers. I'm mainly interested in date of manufacture, and secondly, their value. They are both in excellent shape. The info I have is below, from the numbers stamped in front of the trigger guard. Thanks in advance gentlemen. It's good to be home.

Browning B2000 Twenty Gauge 631PM 05081

Browning B2000 Twelve Gauge C47 58342

Check outhttps://www.browning.com/support/date-your-firearm/b-2000-automatic-shotgun.html W/o seeing them, I'd place value at $350 to $425 each. Maybe more right now in the short of guns market.

Browning's made by Miroku after 1976 carry information in what appears to be the gun's SN.

There is usually a configuration code number at the head of the "SN", followed by a 2-letter date code, and ending with the actual SN.

The PM date code letters = 1980

I have no clue about the SN you gave for the 12ga.

C = 12 ga., 47 is 1974. 58342 is the serial number and the numbers begin at 01001 each year. That's the way I interpret the Browning site.

My opinion is that the 20 ga B2000 is desirable, especially if it has an open choke.

The 12 ga, not so much.

The desire for great old guns like these seem to be low right now. If you love shotguns, these are excellent guns to keep.

I love the Browning Double Auto. It was the model that was produced right before the B2000. I think Browning switched to a gas gun (B2000) from the short recoil Double Auto to compete with the Rem 1100.

Both of these would be great field guns.

Doug
