Took my wife shopping today and I took a couple of shotguns I don’t shoot too much in case an opportunity presented itself.

Found a Belgian Browning A-5 20 ga , 26” vent rib barrel , IC fixed choke. Just like my late brother shot. Of course a deal was made and it came home with me.

Mirror bore, it's a lightweight(2 3/4 " chamber) manuf. 1954-55. Ser# L69***. Not a speck of rust or pit on her.

My fondness for Brownings stems from the fact that as a kid my older Brother, whom I looked up to and who started me duck hunting, shot Belgian Browning A-5's. A lightweight 20 for upland and a 12 ga Mag for ducks and geese. I drooled over his A-5's and Brownings became the guns as far as I was concerned.

In later years after I became an adult he loaned me his 20ga A-5 till I could acquire my own gun, mine having left me during college.

After he passed his guns rightly went to his oldest son, but my Browning itch was still there. I now have several Brownings I hunt and shoot clays with, but acquiring this Belgian A-5 20 ga today just seems so right.

I have a 20 A-5 with this exact configuration; mid 60's model, I got from my dad. It's my favorite dove gun. Shoots great. Enjoy.

The first Belgian A-5, 20's were made in 1958. And none of the serial numbers begin with L.

Thanks for the heads up. I apparently wasn't looking at the serial #.

It's actually 6Z4*** as found on the bottom of the receiver in front of the carrier. So it's a Lightweight manufacture in 1966.

Again thank you for the correction, I appreciate it.

Great story. As others have already said, the Light 20 is a pleasure to carry and shoot.

They are a pleasure to carry and to shoot. I saved a brand new one still in the box for years till my youngest got old enough to shoot it. Kids being kids she shot a few rounds of skeet and decided that it was a nice gun but couldn’t understand why I would give her something that old and wasn’t really interested in it. That thing is amazing to shoot. With 7/8s target loads it’s about as close as you can get to no recoil at all. Told her that if she would prefer something a little more modern she was free to purchase one she preferred. Ha ha jokes on her! Now I have a brand new a5 lite 20 in my closet. Hard decision to make every time I go shooting whether to grab the light 20 or to take my favorite 20ga super so I just take both of them. I think she went and bought some new clothes instead. Now we’re both tickled ot death!
