WOW! What a gorgeous little gun. Beautiful feather/fiddleback pattern! I don't know which to call it - so I'll go with 'awesome'.

Thanks for sharing.

Anatidae thanks. Some of the Brownings from the 50's really have exceptional wood. There are several in your collection that lend evidence to this.

This particular Superposed shotgun is a 20g, and perfect for Sharptail and Ruffed Grouse.

Dear MJ:

That's some lovely lumber, for sure!!

But the engraving on your Funken signed pigeon is exquisite! For some reason the engraving of the pigeons really stands out to me.

One of the best Pigeon samples I've seen.

Congrats! {hs#

CFB, thanks for the comments. As I recall, you have a very nice Pigeon example also.

Although the deep engraving of the Diana and Midas is certainly to be appreciated, I feel that the simplicity of the Pigeon design makes it a classic. And a little patina around the edges certainly doesn't hurt...

"Fabrique Nationale D'armes de Guerre - Herstal . Belgique" original stock on a 1958 B2 'Calling Cock' Grade.

This does not compare with the 'fiddleback' on Muskyjack's '57 Browning Gr II gun. But they all have a unique character......and they're all special in their own way.

The wood is as simple as the engraving details.

The checkering pattern that crosses under the round knob is one of my favorite details from this period.

Here's a link to the engraving on this gun (if interested) http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=286714&start=360

Nicely done.

Does it Count?

I don't know why it wouldn't............I posted one up on page 2, this thread.

......and I picked-up this California Claro blank (yes, salt-free) last week, just in case......

'Edge' view.

I'm sure it'll collect dust for a while until the right late 50's / early 60's gun (that needs a good fiddle-back facelift) comes along.

This is not THE late 50's early 60's gun referenced above.

....but it IS 1960 Vintage original wood.....with a hint of 'fiddleback' through the grip.

If only it had a butt plate instead of a pad........

Nice wood, finish, and checkering! Congratulations! The details matter.

Now, you can scratch 'Midas' off your list.

Nice example 'akblackfoot'.

I'm still hung-up on the mid-50's French Walnut era guns almost as much for the wood, as the engraving.

Rubysue- Pretty wood on this one! Also the checkering on the Brownings from the 1950s is always first class.
The quail didn't stand a chance.

Rubysue - If I didn't know that FN/Browning was using French Walnut in the 50's, I would congratulate you on a beautiful piece of English Walnut. Congrats, nonetheless!!

BTW, Browning should hire you for the photography in their catalogs. Love the quail juxtaposed against your lovely Superposed!! {hs#
