I bought a Browning Maxus Ultimate 12 gauge with a 30" barrel. The wood is exceptional, even drool-worthy. Yet after putting 5 boxes of shells through it, I find I do better with my new A5 with a 26" tube. So I put it up for sale on Gunbroker for $1100. I grew up with shorter shotguns. My preference.

I like shorter barrels too, just about always for hunting not clay target shooting. My 'go-to' is usually 26", the next choice is a bit shorter. Of course it depends on the average use planned.

I know it's expensive, but if you otherwise like the gun you could get another barrel? Another option may be to have your long barrel 'professionally' shortened and then threaded for choke tubes?

I use 32" barrels on my semi-autos.

Why?

Because they don't make 34" barrels.

I have 2 semis, one with 28" and one with 26". for some reason my brain tells me I shoot better with a 28" and so far I've done the best with my Cynergy with 30" barrels but obviously its not a semi which is what youre initial comment was on

Barrel length depends on several factors for me. There is no one length that's magic for me. The Model of the gun and intended use/s are the two main ones. I have 26" barreled auto loaders that are almost as long as others with 28" barrels. My auto loaders barrel length range from 24" to 28" currently.

It's all about the feel of the gun and the barrel length is only part of that equation.
