Like the title asks what other than the 2” of barrel, what are the differences between these models? Are the port sizes both oversized compared to the field barrels? They both have choked barrels so I assume they can be used for multiple clay sports as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don’t believe that there are any significant mechanical differences (same extractor, larger ports, etc). The Sporting model has nicer wood and a 28” barrel, as you noted, with four extended Briley chokes.

1100 Sporting has “light contour target or target contour” barrel, 11-87 skeet has standard contour target barrel and although 2” shorter weighs a few oz more. May result in different feel and balance for you. Both have larger ports. 11-87 skeet has satin wood, 1100 sporting gloss. Both great guns, like they say, get em both!

11-87 will also take regular 11-87 barrels for future 3" versatility if you care. Note the oversized port barrels carry an admonishment against shooting heavy loads.

Thanks for all the replies. You guys have pretty much answered my questions. Rickeroo, the skeet model I’m looking at is a premier model with gloss finished wood and shiny bluing. You’d think it was a 1100 if you didn’t look up close. Virginian, thanks for the advice for the other barrel. I have a 1100 field model that I can use for hunting. I also usually just use 1oz field loads for rabbits. This gun would be used for clay games. With the 11-87 being pretty much half the price of the sporting 12 I’m kinda leaning that way. But it would be used obviously and the sporting new. But the lifetime warranty on the sporting is very tempting. Decisions decisions.

I bought a Rem 1187 premier skeet left hand that came with 26" barrels and turned around and bought a 28" light contour barrel and purchased a complete set of Rem extended chokes to shoot
skeet and sporting clays.
