I need to replace the synthetic stock on my 12 gauge Remington Special Purpose 870 Greenleaf shotgun and I found one for a 12 gauge 11-87. Are they interchangeable?

According to Remington....No. Last week Rem told me that 1100 stock would fit an 870 but not an 11-87. I was looking at an 1100 English special field stock for my 11-87 and they said it would not fit. I do not want to put this stock n my 870 and I don't own an 1100.

You are getting bad information from Remington. newer 1100 and 11-87 butt stocks are interchangeable within series - 12 or 20/28/410.
1100, 11-87, and 870 butt stocks are also interchangeable within series.
The people who answer the phones are not the most knowledgeable, nor are they paid like it.

So the 1187 synthetic stock that I found will fit my 870. Since there is no recoil assembly on the 870 is there any adjustment or alteration that I'll have to make to attach the stock?

length from the "shoulder" in the stock to the back of the receiver may be different, you can fix this either with a longer bolt or a spacer made from PVC pipe, depending on which way you need to go.

Or you can go to Ace Hardware and get a shorter bolt if you need it.

I bet you can figure it out for yourself. Give it an honest try and I'm near certain you'll come up with the size that will bolt the stock to the receiver.

It is 1/4 -28 (national fine) but the length may be a problem in a hardware store.

I thought I might getting bad info, but I did also guess (correctly) that you would be along to sort it out for us. Thanx, I'm still looking at an English stock for the 11-87.
