Here's mine - nothing special among Ithacas, but special to me. 1966 M37, 12 ga, 26" bbl, choked IC. My father added the checkering and the recoil pad. It was a Christmas gift my sophomore year in college.

Is there someone on here I can e-mail pictures of my 37 to that can post them up here? I don't have the smarts or the patience to do it myself. I would really appreciate it, as the gun has beautiful engraving and raised ducks on one side of the reciever, and a dog pointing pheasants on the other side. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I'm on my way to Tatla Lake to harvest some grouse. I have four of the kids with me. A M37 ,a M100, A M500 and a M66. All 20ga. The rest of the kids had to stay home.

A while back another friend gave me this 1941 M37R. The issues it has are after market pad, wrong forearm and barrel cut and polychoke added. 24 3/4 in. to end of poly. But it's still a M37R. and the price was right.

Both are very nice however I am not sure to the year of the 37R. You noted the ring tale fore arm however I noticed that the checkering on the stock does not seem to go up and meet in the tang area? If so it would seem to be the post war checkering pattern on a pre war stock. I believe it is possible that the gun was started in 1941 and finished some time after WWII making the fore end correct and the gun as a whole a great conversation piece.

1977cutcher. You have a sharp eye. The gun is numbered to 1941. The stock is the same as my 1949 guns. I do believe the receiver has been re-blued.
The checkering on my 1942 does meet in the tang area.

Also note the stock profile especially in the tang area on your pre and post war guns. The pre war guns will have a more pronounced dip in that area witch I believe your 37 R has. While your serial number may show it as a pre war gun I really think it is possible that it may have been finished up post war. If my understanding of what the process was is correct Ithaca would make guns in "batches". The batch size would depend on how popular a gun / barrel combination was. A batch of say 100 12 gauge 30 inch full choke plain barrels, or a batch of say 20 16 gauge 28 inch modified choke solid rib barrels, ect. Your gun may have been part of a batch that simply did not get completed in 41 and not many guns where produced in 42 before the government put a halt on civilian gun sales. After the war production resumed with a combination of both parts on hand from before the war and updated post war parts. Either that or both the stock and for arm was replaced at some point; however if the stock profile matches that of the pre war with the post war checkering that would not make sense either. Looks to me as though you may have a great "transition" gun. Enjoy!

I think you are right about it being a transition gun now that I've looked it over and read pages 59 and 60 in the book. Thanks for the sharp eye. Serial # 71420.
