A few weeks ago I noticed I had been getting a charge for $12 from a source called "complete savings". I never thought much about it since it was probably just another online store I bought from, but I got charged again yesterday so i did some research. Turns out 1 800 826 1885 "complete savings" is a scam company that "markets with other businesses" and basically gets you on a "membership" and charges you. What they really do is simply get your credit card info from other phone/online businesses and start charging you without permission, but state that you gave them permission when you did business with this other website/company. Many people don't notice it since it's a small fee and dont' check their accounts very often. One of the most known businesses where customers are victimized is ordering by credit /debit card to Pizza Hut.

I just called them to get my refund and they told me that when I ordered from Cheaper than dirt.com I was enrolled in this discount service where apparently I can get a discount on certain "dining or shopping experiences" by paying 12 dollars a month. I NEVER ENROLLED IN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. They've been withdrawing 12 dollars every month from my account for 5 months without me even knowing it. I demanded a full refund.

I'm never doing any business with Cheaperthandirt.com again. I can't believe they just sell out customer billing info like that. I was so pissed. Anyone else dealt with this kind of stuff before?

I'd be going after cheaper than dirt if I were you. They are just as much at fault for throwing their customers under the bus.

I have bought from Cheaper Than Dirt in the past and have not had this problem. I would definately contact them, and also your credit card company. It may be too late after 5 months to get all the charges blocked, maybe not.

You gotta review credit card statements every month to check for this stuff. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Isn't this "change" great!!!!

It may not be Cheaperthendirt at fault here. When they (or any other company) take a credit/debit card the info goes through a processing center, usually their bank. Most of the big banks do there own card processing with overages on busy days (think of the holidays coming up) going to contracted outside processing centers. These outside centers service all mannners of businesses and small banks. And this is where you here about ID theft. It wasn't that long ago that one of these centers (of a major bank) had card numbers stolen by a emplyee. And it numbered in the millions. If cheaperthendirt says they know nothing about it, they may not be lying. Multiply that $12 by a million or so and you see why ID theft is such big business.

I suspect that this is the same thing that was afflicting Pizza Hut and others.

Retailers weren't doing a good enough job policing their "partners" and their extended agreements for "clicks".

I have never had a problem with CTD, but, that doesn't mean their products are all the highest quality.

I don't think CTD still "partners" with that company.

No problem for me because I never buy from them. They wouldn't ship me some products that were perfectly legal in MA, because I was in MA. And wouldn't give me the name of the owner or any managers to write to about it.

I think businesses that claim to support 2A and don't really suck, so I'll never do business with them again.

I've never had a problem with Pizza Hut, but I did have a problem with Hollywood video on my membership account. My bank caught the company they bill thru selling my account info twice and I had to open a new account. It's my understanding that several banks filed suit against this company and they are now defunct. For all we cuss PayPal I've never had a problem with them and they've got my money back for me on four different occassions when the deal was a scam.

I had the exact same thing happen to me after a purchase however it took quite a bit longer for me to discover the fraud. I called the company taking the money out and they wouldn't give me my money back but it was some sort of "rewards" program so I did get a Visa card with like $25 and a bunch of online coupons for attractions in and around Virgina Beach where we went on vacation and we used them. So I am sure I lost out overall but I did get some thing back and then I canceled the service. I was disappointed in Cheaper Than Dirt and I am not sure if I will do business with them again because of this despite getting great service and products.

How can you not check your credit card statements EVERY SINGLE MONTH and let 5 months go by of a charge you arnt sure of? SERIOUSLY!

Credit card theft is generally very easy to stop or prevent by doing simple things as actually looking at the charges on your card. By letting it go, you are creating your own credit demise.

Sorry to be negative, but honestly, people in this country need to pay more attention to their credit, or just quit using credit. Im not trying to pick on the OP, but its real simple NOT to have months of erroneous charges. The credit card company will understand a one time thing, but if you let it go, they are going to really have a hard time believing that you did not enroll in something...

Cheaper than dirt is a ripoff company anyways. When ammo was scarce just a few months ago, their prices were 2-5x what I could find locally. That is not a company I will do business with.

Good luck with getting it settled, but like I said, they likely will not believe you as you let it go for 5 months, however they WILL stop any further charges.

The same thing happened to me just last month, but only one charge of $12. This happened only after I tried to get my $10 off coupon for my next CTD order that I have always ignored until my last order. The process was misleading and I exited out, but somehow they enrolled me without my permission

I called CTD who wouldn't do anything but give me the number for the company. I called the company several times and it always says the operators are busy even when I was on hold for 10 minutes before I gave up. It seems very suspicious that their automated system will cancel your (unwanted) membership if you enter your credit card number, I'm not going to enter it.

I called my bank to report my card "stolen" to prevent any further charges and they are supposedly investigating it and may refund my money.

I wont be ordering from CTD anymore.

At some point in the check-out process you probably clicked on a deceitful "discount" offer. I had this very thing happen with an online merchant a couple of years ago. As soon as I realized it put a charge on my account, I immediately cancelled it. The charge was refunded to my account and I went on my way just a little wiser about "discounts".

A couple of months ago I got a form in the mail to claim my portion of the settlement from a class action lawsuit against the outfit. Since I hadn't actually lost anything, I didn't get anything out of the deal.

I had a similar experience with "Free Credit Report". I was being charged for services, monthly for about 3 months before i figured out what it was going to. I never actually signed up for anything with them. I merely went to their site and tried to sign up for the free credit report, but it didn't go all the way through. I was supposed to put in some kind of authorization to access my report, but i couldn't, for some reason. I thought it was for something i had actually subscribed to, but i never gave any authorization to FCR.com to deduct ANY money from my account, so i called them up when i figured out what was wrong, and told them, "For being free, why am i being charged monthly for something i never authorized, anyway?" I told them to refund ALL of my money, and i won't report them to the BBB and take legal action. They were pretty quick to refund my money. They knew they f*cked up, and were in the wrong.

free credit report is a scam.

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
is the joint site for the three credit agencies. You can pull your report from each of the three through that site. They wont give you you're "score", but it will show all of your lines of credit and status of payments that effect your score so that you can dispute any issues.

Yup, i figured out real quick that FCR.com was a scam. Especially after i called them and told them to refund all my money, and they didn't give me any grief on the matter.

FreeCreditReport is bogus. The only people who can generate the actual scores the lenders actually see is Fair Isaacs Commission who is the concoctor of the real scoring algorithm. https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp is the ONLY place you can get your real credit reports and you are entitled to this service for free once a year by legislation. myFICO (Fair Isaacs) is the only place you can get the reports with the actual scores lender grade your credit by as myFico generates score based on data collected by the three credit reporting agencies. http://www.myfico.com .
Un-fortunately, Experian, one of the 3 credit data collecting agencies (the other two are Equifax and Trans Union) , and myFico are at war so Experian is denying myFico the ability to sell your actual score to you Mr. John Public. (For this, both Experian and Fair Isaacs should be invited to any of your tactical clay pigeon shoots BTW, IMHO)
BTW, Cheaper than Dirt is about the most expensive on line retailer out there.

It depends on what it is. I was just pricing 7.62x39 recently, and a 500 round case from CTD was the cheapest per round by far. 2 cents a round cheaper than the cheapest 1000 round case.

I've been bitten by the same type of $12 monthly membership fee for "discounts at various online stores" after making a purchase from zipzoomfly.com, an online computer parts and electronics store.

After giving your CC info to complete a purchase, you may be directed to a page offering valuable discounts on everything from dining to donuts. If you start filling in your data to get these fine discounts, somewhere along the way there is going to be some carefully hidden fine print where you agree to allow the outfit offering these discounts to charge you CC a membership fee.

I'm an IT nerd/network administrator for a retail business and should have known better, but I didn't. I caught the charge quickly and had no problem getting it removed by calling customer service at my CC issuer. I was responsible for securing the CC processing system at work so I've spent some time scrounging info about CC security and I'm pretty sure that these leaches have "business partner" agreements with the companies like Cheaper Than Dirt, etc. Whoever maintains the website where you're getting redirected to one of these "sign up for discounts" pages knows very well what's going on. Ain't nothin free!
