Billy Joe Shaver, who wrote “Old Five and Dimer’s Like Me” died today at the age of 81. ... -dead.html

Shaver mostly is known for writing the “outlaw” songs of that genre during the 1970s. He wrote or co-wrote a lot of Waylon Jennings songs.

But perhaps the greatest tribute to his skills, is that Tom T. Hall recorded what I believe is the definitive version of “Old Five and Dimer’s Like Me” in 1973.

When you can write a Tom T. Hall classic, you’ve been there.

So long, Billy Jo Shaver.

You were all you intended to be.

I have never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as a reason for withdrawing from a friend. Thomas Jefferson
