Browning 725 Citori Field 12 gauge. Bought new last season and loved it. I'll start with Fiocci Golden Pheasant 2 3/4 lead #5's.

This fall I have been using a 28 gauge AYA number 2. I am hunting over my Drahthaar, so shots are usually close, and so far I am at 38 birds with 40 shots.

Browning A5 (Belgium) Mag 20, 3" #5 shot Federal. Great combo, similar to a 12 gauge 1 1/4 oz load

My Remington Model 1100, 12ga, 2 3/4" chamber, 28"modified choke barrel.

These three:

Merkel 200E 12 OU Cyl/IC
Beretta Silver Hawk 16 SxS IC/IM
Beretta 686 12 OU IC/IM

I've taken 3 pointed roosters so far this year with the 200E's Cyl barrel. Wicked efficient on those close shots.

I did take my first rooster of the year with a 16 gauge Remington 48 Sportsman I recently picked up, but I quickly decided I need to familiarize myself with it a bit more before I use it again on birds. Not feeling confident with it.

My brother and I just returned from shooting pheasants, sharptails, and Huns over very good dogs in Montana. He shot a Parker GHE 20 and I shot a Remington 1100 Sporting 20. We both used Remington Express 6s with good results. 12 gauge guns and 5s wouldn't have hurt anything on the pheasants but we both like what we were shooting for the sharptails and Huns.

My CZ Upland SXS 20 ga and my "new to me" Ithaca M37 from 1949. Will be able to dial a pattern with the Herters Varichoke. :)

Mostly single barrels now.
A choice of front loaders or two 12 g breach loaders, here is a couple of photos.

Tristar Bronze Viper 20 gage and Blue! BTW your dog is way more important than the gun. If you have a good dog you can shoot them with pretty much anything that goes bang.

Hi,

I WAS using my 28ga Ringneck with 3/4oz of ITX. Right up until the stock cracked across the wrist.  :( :( A repair job of this winter.......
Image

So I've switched to my 20ga Dickinson for the duration. Remington Nitros in #2 steel for public land and #5 Golden Pheasant for private.

I've been using my new 12ga Franchi Affinity. Really liking this gun. I went to all steel shot this season and have been happy with Fiocchi 1 1/5oz of 3s. It is a little hotter load then I'd like but I wanted the pellet count. Steel kills pheasants better then many might think it will. Granted many of my pheasants are shot over a point.

Now if I can just find a little lighter 20ga shotgun and steel load combination that I like as well as this.

725 sporting in 20ga with LM chokes and 2 3/4in in 7.5's even if it is late season and all my birds are wild birds and for the last few year without a dog. Been using a similar setup for the last 40yrs.

Well, the 1956 Light Twelve finally had a chance to hit the field.

I did manage to scratch down one bird with Belle a few weeks ago. I was only able to hunt one morning. Belle pointed 3 birds and I connected on one. The cover was tight, the full choke was a little to tight for me.

I'll be fixing that after the new year!

I'm definitely leaning toward my 20 gauge Montefeltro. 2 years ago it was the 12 gauge Montefeltro, last year the 16 gauge Ithaca 37, so this year it's time for a 20 gauge.

Rather than the Browning Gold I posted earlier, my main pheasant gun has been a Mossberg 930 I picked up a couple weeks ago. It is a bit lighter than the Browning and seems to handle my steel reloads in the cold we have been having.

It is my third 930 which will complement the other two which I use for slug hunting and 3-gun/self defense use.

Beautiful photos, guys!!! :)

I have absolutely LOVED my Browning Citori 725 Field 12 gauge for pheasant hunting! It shoulders so well for me and fits wonderfully. I have been using IM over LM chokes with great success. Still shooting 2 3/4 lead, Fiocchi 1,450 fps shells. So far, I've brought home 18 birds this season.

Would you believe a 28 gauge Bautista Rizzini Aurum Small Action with hand loaded 3/4 oz. lead 7's? I shoot in the Mexicali Valley of Baja California. Great shooting and NO SNOW. The 7's work especially well as the flush can be Phesants or Gambel Quail in the same ditch.

Right now, I'm using my Browning Maxus Hunter with an extended IC choke and 1 1/4 oz of #6 lead. I'll have to switch to steel in the next couple of years (required in CA after July 1, 2019), but for now the #6 lead does the job and at under 7 lbs, the Maxus is not too bad to carry all day.
