Don't do it!

Moose are larger than you think, and bear are tougher than you think. I can't think of any guide that would let a client go after either with buckshot.

Some guides in AK use slug guns for protection, also a big one they use is a Marlin 45-70 Guide gun. I had a cousin who was a guide when he lived in AK. He had a minimum caliber a cllente could use. He told me he carried a 458. cal Winchester . reason being if a client had a bad shot on a brown bear he could drop it before it made it to the bush. He said if that happened, Things get real exiting.

I'm not a Hunter's safety instructor but I have a hunter and would not dream of hunting moose or bear with buckshot. A quality slug yes. Buckshot not a chance.

Yes absolutely a SLUG and with a 12 or 10 Gauge only.

I shot an Elk two years ago with a 12 gauge slug at 50 yards, killed it but the slug only penetrated about 7"

Was it a foster type slug or a sabot?

Thanks, I would have expected greater penetration.

As with all shotgun load choices, load selection - including slug or buckshot - is critical to a successful hunt. Yes, this includes Black Bear or Moose hunting with buckshot or slug!

Yes, there are commercial buckshot loads that have the power and penetration to take down large game.

Yes, there are heavy full bore commercial slug loads that truly live up to the name Dangerous Game Slug.
