I'm most probably going to be in the Houston area later this week & weekend, can anyone recommend a nice sporting clays range that me and my son can go to one day where you are not required to be a member? Thanks in advance!

Thats a second on American. Great targets they have a couple of different courses depending on your shooting level. I also shot caney creek and Greater Houston gun club when I was visiting inlaws back in January, meet a guy that was a member of Greater Houston, nasty tower shots, but lots of fun. American has some good towers also. ENJOY......

American (ASC) is open to the public .

The other clubs are private and you'd have to go w/ a member.

American has several courses set at different levels. Multiple towers. Many specialty machines. Hot as hell in the summer. Bring water. Call them before you go.

You might also try these folks. I think they have an OTP day next weekend.

Rio Brazos is about 30 miles west of Houston. It's a really pretty place , laid out like a golf course....lots of shade , water -- lakes and ponds. You'll need a cart.

They have a lot of tournaments , too.

There's a big SC tournament at Westside Sporting Grounds near Houston this weekend, in case you and your son want to shoot some registered targets.

If you don't want to shoot registered this weekend, then check out American Shooting Centers off of Westheimer Rd. in the George Bush Park. Trap, skeet, wobble trap, 5 stand and 2 sporting courses.

Google American Shooting Centers for hrs. and directions.

Hello, Richard!

I have a great invitation for you and your son!

The Bob Brister Memorial Shoot (NSCA) is this weekend (Friday, Saturday, & Sunday) at Westside Sporting Grounds just outside of Houston (on the LA side!)! Westside is a very nice private sporting facility but with a number of NSCA shoots open to the public throughout the tournament year. This week's "Brister" offers almost 800 targets and folks can shoot all three days, Saturday and Sunday, or, just one day.

Please check out the Forum posts on www.shooterspage.com and there is also a flyer on that site as well. Registration is up and running on www.IClays.com We would love to have you and your son come out to Westside for any of the three days. I have been a member of WSG for several years and I can attest to the excellent targets set by WSG's manager, Adam Blair.

We'll have a Prelim, Sub-Gauge events, Main Event, FITASC, Five-Stand, etc. Presently over 100 shooters have registered, and I'm expecting that there will be around 200 who shoot at least one event. Feel free to give me a call or email and it would be a pleasure to meet you if you are able to make it to Houston and the Bob Brister Memorial. Bob was active at WSG and this tournament is a true tribute and memorial to his life and also benefits the Bob Brister Memorial Scholarship at the University of Texas at Austin.

'Hope to see you and anyone else who will be in the Houston area this weekend!

Thanks for all the replies! I don't think I can do an all day shoot, like mentioned above, Just looking to break away for a few hours while my wife is visiting with her friends. I checked out the ASG website and that looks to be close to where they live.

I did notice that there is a TON of clubs around the Houston area, there is only 1 in my area that is a 30 minute drive, the other closest 2 are 1-1.5 hrs away.
