Yesterday I had a free day, so I took dirt rider's advice and drove out to Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee Fl (about 30 minutes west of Ft Pierce.

Quail Creek sporting Clays
Okeechobee, FL 34972

They're getting ready for the Gator Cup. And with almost 750 people entered, it's going to be a big one. But I was there to shoot a practice round on the Blue Course.

Station 1 was soft, station 2 was a vision test, stations 3 thru 16 were tough. How tough, most machines go up to 10, but these guys had theirs turned up to 11 :)

Only one thing can describe them, separators, prostate exam, root canal, my ex wives, OK more than one thing. Every station had speed, distance, curl, edge.

Were they over the top, every one of them. Were they stupid, not a one. I'd love to spend a month just shooting these birds. Talk about stepping up your game !! If you do well on this course, you'll do well anywhere (and yes I've shot Northbrook many times).

Better get there quick because the Gator Cup starts this week.

My favorite was station 15. True pair off of the tower 90 & standard. Sation 7 maybe, screaming quartering L-R target followed by a 70 R-L off of a tower.

The event scores will be through the roof. Those are the targets the sport has produced.

I ran #1, never touched a target on #2, then struggled my way thru the rest of them. They were definitely not skeet in the woods.

I didn't shoot #7 because of the long wait there :)

Some of them took WAY more lead than I thought, and some of them took WAY less than I thought. The target setter did a good job of fooling me.

Like I said, great targets.

I remember the days Mike was just getting started here in Delaware- Nobody wanted to win a tournament more than Mike... made the rest of us just want to raise our game as well. There is great talent in the eastern shore and it takes a lot of hard work to climb (and stay) to the top.

He is a fierce competitor, a great shot, an up and coming world class target setter imho- (Chuck Frazier prodigy)... but even more importantly a great friend that anyone would enjoy being around.

We miss his creative targets and snarky smiles here at Pintail Point (never made it to Nemacolin when he was running it, but Wes is a man of great character as well).

If Mike's design history runs parallel this year- we should expect challenging pre-lims and a main event dialed back a little but with a lot of transition. Pre-shot preparation is paramount on any course Mike has set, take your time and you'll see what he was evaluating while he was standing in the same spot creating the menu. One thing for sure- you will see every target flight around the clock and if you have a weak link... he will expose it.

All that being said the Gator cup is more than targets, its a great experience and everyone is uber hospitable..

Have fun guys and gals...
