1. Misclassification of deaths happens, sometimes reporters and recorders get it wrong - for a variety of reasons. It isn't necessarily malice or politics, just error. 2. Errors are more common in outbreak situations; folks are rushed, tired, trying to catch up, whatever. 3. Errors are more common in emergent situations; case definitions are evolving and coding standards not necessarily well defined. 4. When this is all over (and eventually it will be), epidemiologists and biostatisticians will conduct retrospective studies of the first wave of the COVID19 pandemic. They will "clean up" the data for analysis. Part of the data cleaning process will be to develop scientifically defensible definitions for COVID19 cases and COVID19-related deaths. 5. Analyses and published results will use those definitions - available for everyone to examine. 6. If you want really accurate estimates of "first wave" COVID19 mortality in selected populations, you are probably going to have to wait a couple of years for them. Getting it right takes time and peer review. How much of 4,5 and 6 will be news the media will report. Answer 0.

The popular press will have moved on to shrieking hysterically about whatever their current crisis happens to be. If you are interested in questions of fact, the professional literature is your best resource. Investigators don't get it right all of the time, but "study limitations" are a standard component of scientific publications. You have some idea of what they don't know and can judge for yourself whether their conclusions are consistent with the data.

When hospitals are provided with incentives to list Covid as one of the diagnosis, guess what happens?

I've lost 20 pounds since the covid crisis started, and I no longer stand around the parking lot waiting for my shooting partners to get ready. Win/win

Medicare pays and extra 20% above standard rates for Covid patients when they are hospitalized. Google is your friend. Yep which is why any possible death that could be labeled as Covid, especially in the beginning, was done that way - it was all about the "free money"

But I think our takeaway from this is a bit different.

To lead off Slopian needs to keep his biased opinions in the UK --we don't need them in our country. Moreover this whole Wuhan Chinese Virus is so overhyped by the media and the lefties it is beyond ludicrous. For those that want to follow the sheep to slaughter so be it, but for those of us that want to move forward and blow this off as just another flu virus so be it. I am sick and tired of the scare tactics that the media blast the airwaves with daily. Between them and Fauci if you believe their garbage we are all going to die. I am allegedly in that age group that has to be concerned[68] but concerned I am not and refuse to live my life in fear cowering in the corner, pissing on the floor like a scared puppy. Screw Corona Virus and the horse it rode in on. Lets shoot and have a good time and the only distancing should be "spam distancing"

I'll also echo the insurance hospital money grab......co worker of mine has a brother inlaw down in NC he quit his job as a medical examiner when he was directed to mark down cause of death COVID-19 when the guy who was killed was struck by a semi truck head on at a stop light.
Use the internet, use the search feature, don't criticize those that are living their life's in manner that "you don't agree with" leave others alone, and go shoot and have fun, or don't shoot and stay isolated.
Can't we just just move Covid related threads to the "off topic" forum along with "fixing master class" non sense that seems to rear it's head about every quarter.
