I know most of you guys think I disdain upscale guns. In fact, I think they are wonderful. What I don’t think is that a novice on a budget has to have one to play the game. So getting started for the last two years with my Yildiz O/U has been perfect for me. I was able to get into the sport inexpensively, and yet the gun performs great. It may fail tomorrow, but it hasn’t yet.

I recently exited bicycling after about 40 years pounding the pedals in favor of walking with my wife and have sold everything related to it I owned for about 1/3 what it was worth. And guess what, the take, even after those exhorbitant eBay fees, was just what I needed for a Joel Etchen Beretta 687 SP III Signature Sporting O/U with 30” barrels. Ordered yesterday. Me and Reese’s, not sorry.

I thought I knew which one I wanted, woodwise, but changed my mind. They have 10 lefties, and let me tell you, it isn’t easy. I will straighten it out Monday.

Cool. As you know, pictures are the preferred proof of ownership on SGW site.

Of course. Bikes too. When I finalize which gun I will be getting, I will upload the photo.

Why’d you go with 30” barrels over 32’s. Asking for a friend.

I’m currently shooting 28s and liking it fine. But I thought going up a notch to keep up with the in crowd would make some sense. I’m only 5’7” with 33” sleeve. I just don’t think I need to wave all that barrel around. There really isn’t much another 2 inches of barrel is going to do for me. I only skied once because I didn’t like being tied to the long skis all day if you get the analogy.

I am shorter than you are and have no problems swinging a 32" barrel. It is all where you hold the gun before you call the bird.

Going with 30" barrels on a SC gun is a mistake. Beretta barrels are very light, and there's a decent chance a 32" Beretta would be comparable or livelier than your 28" Yildiz.

Perhaps so, and I appreciate the input. But I don’t like a lot of torque on my back from weight hanging out front. I suspect the light barrels will suit me well.

Some people can’t swing a 32” gun. He will be just fine with 30” barrels.

Hola! Thanks for the support. I hope you are well. Actually same for everybody. I hope we didn't lose anyone to the virus during my absence.

Naturally the chokes that come with the gun aren't what I shoot, Lite Mod in both barrels...at least for now. I went looking for some yesterday and was surprised how hard the genuine Beretta brand Optima Extended chokes are to find. Sure Briley has their take on them and seems to have plenty, but not so much some of the other aftermarket suppliers. And I thought Optics Planet would have a big selection. Not so. Neither Brownell's. Actually the best selection and price I could easily find was on the Beretta website. Who'da thunk it?

What also surprised me, but more pleasantly was the price, only $45 each with free shipping. I had thought B gun genuine chokes were really pricey. As for why I wanted Beretta brand chokces, heck, that's easy. Gotta show off that colored band so everybody knows I'm shooting Beretta...finally! LOL

No one will have any trouble telling the difference between your Yildiz and an SPIII, regardless of the chokes. Pre-owned since it doesn’t have a full set of chokes? Are you going to set it up like you did the Yildiz?

With an Optima/Optima+/Optima HP Beretta, most 12 year olds shouldn't have a problem swinging 32" barrels.

What if he wants to shoot skeet? Or what if he wants what he wants?
