Looking at the scores for the Buckeye Open it must have been stupid hard.

I hope that the shooters knew going in that the targets were set hard. Its one thing to advertise a challenging course but another to go to a regular shoot and get beat. The good news for the local guys is you all have some tough stuff to work on.

Jake set it hard then we had dark skies and unexpected wind. 25-35 mph. It made some of the true pairs close to impossible and several clays that would have turned and showed more stayed on edge. Very tough.

If it would have been 75 and sunny it would have been a ball. But 35mph wind and cloudy/dark made most of the targets and definatly over the top. The flip side, the super sporting was far less than super.

Who is setting the targets for the Ohio State shoot? I Might need to reconsider if I'm going.

Target setters know about weather, and kinda what to expect. Set it on the easier side with weather coming. Unexpected happens, but Saturday's weather was forecasted.....

Rooster I agree that if it were my state shoot I would go regardless. But this is not my state shoot. I'm from another state. 7 hour drive. Don't want to drive 7 hours to shoot unreasonable targets. That's my thoughts.

Some times targets are not really over the top difficulty wise but menu wise. In other words the target setter set some really challenging but fair stations while not taking into account the number and sequence of those stations. Add in the weather change and it turns out to be a bit of a problem for shooters to shoot a good score. Did you ever shoot a station of 4 pairs and walk off with a score of 5 and say to yourself "I'll take a 5 on that". Then go to 6 more stations in a row and have the same result? After a while you get mentally beat to the point that easy targets get away. Confidence lost and your score is in the toilet. Not saying that is what happened at Cardinal but my experience there has been good and I haven't heard one person complain about unfair targets. Big difference between hard and unfair.

The competition is against other shooters, not the targets, so why does it even matter? We all have to shoot the same targets, its all relative. Are egos just too fragile to handle what they presume is a "low" score? There should be no expectation of % of breaks in sporting clays.

Totally agree with you Johnny. I shot it and really enjoyed it. Were the targets tough? Yep! But everyone shoots the same targets. People here are starting to sound like old whiny trapshooters. This was a 2 day tournament not a charity shoot. And as far as the state shoot I heard rumors that Hemingway might do them again.
