NSSF’s First Shots Clay Targets Turns First-timers Into Return Shooters Read more: https://www.ammoland.com/2020/07/nssfs- ... z6S8NTindLU.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- “Gun clubs need to be warm, friendly and inviting,” says Skip Smith, General Manager of Drake Landing in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. “You need your base of regular shooters and members, but you also need to attract new shooters. If those new shooters don’t feel welcome and if they don’t have fun, they will find something else to do with their time and their money.” The first thing you notice about Smith is how much he loves to teach. A Level 3 National Sporting Clays Association instructor, Skip is happiest in front of a group of new shooters who are about to experience the fun of breaking clays in a beautiful setting—and he’s found NSSF’s new First Shots Clay Targets program is a great way to make that happen...

My wife and I each had a try gun fitting, pattern plate time, and course time with Skip when he was at Barnsley and you could shoot demo Fabarms there when they were making a new US push with Fabarm USA. Glad to see he landed somewhere else. Nice guy.

What is the NSCA doing with the increase in target tax years ago to promote the game? Where are they? The NSSF seems to be light years ahead in promoting the game.

Well, there was nobody from NSCA at Northbrook to observe or help with running the AFS shoot over the 4th of July weekend. The newest segment of the sport, at one of the largest and best clubs in the country, and you get crickets from the governing body. Except they will award you the elusive punch provided you pay the target tax.

One would think as more of the target base grows older and stops/slows down their shooting that they would be jumping all over both of these programs to entice new shooters to sporting clays.........

NSCA is a supporter of NSSF with dollars which supports the SCTP program and does a lot of advertising for the shooting sports including sporting clays. The SCTP helps develop youth shooters. The Georgia Sporting Clays Association also supports SCTP in Georgia with dollars. And many members of GSCA coach the SCTP members and our clubs provide a place for them to shoot. The Meadows also had a registered ASF shoot recently and did not find it necessary to have NSCA on site to help run it.

Maybe not help, but observe, since the NSCA struck a licensing deal, one would think they would want to observe what they bought first hand to make sure it's as good a program as touted - wouldn't you?

I suspect someone representing NSCA observed it before entering the licensing agreement and I'm sure someone from AFS was at NSCA to present the game and answer questions before the signing. From the material on the AFS site, it is self explanatory. NSCA also had to determine how to integrate the shoot results into their computers, whether to offer punches, and a host of other in house questions. http://nsca.nssa-nsca.org/2020/04/05/nsca-adds-american-field-sporting-to-portfolio/

Uh, Er, ahem.......there’s a little issue right at the moment with travel for some folks, and many companies. Perhaps that had something to do with it? Who from the NSCA should have been attending, in your high and mighty opinion,
