Checking the weather in Jackson, MS on the (original) days of the World FITASC event, here is my report:

Today
After a sweltering afternoon opening ceremony Wednesday evening, it has been a hot day. Currently the temperature is 93 degrees (113 RealFeel) with a very slight breeze of no consequence, considering the relative humidity is a mere 55%. But wait... Tomorrow will be warmer!

Friday
With a high expected at 94 degrees, it is not as bad as it looks. Yes, the RealFeel temperature will only be 102! Fear not, as nighttime temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 80's and may briefly dip in to the upper 70's around 4 AM.

Saturday
Ditto That from Friday.

Sunday
Shoot-Offs and Closing Ceremonies get a break... by one degree! But, after four days in this heat, who cares?

What? You say the event has been postponed until November??? Well, there IS a God in Heaven. Average November temperatures range from highs at 67 degrees and lows to 43 degrees. Now where did I store my down sweater?

Looking forward to the World. Just hope they don't get chilled by continuing COVID-19 fears resulting in a cancellation!

Demi

When I saw the venue for the Worlds I said no way. Been there one summer before. Would never go back.
But I have shot in same brutal weather in Minnesota in july, won't go back there either

I don’t know how far NW you want to go, but it’s supposed to be 98 in Denver this weekend. Forget the dry heat line, Denver at 98 is hot. You could always go to Seattle. That is a well run city.

89 is the high at Northbrook this weekend. And they always put on a good shoot.

I was in Jackson Mississippi for work in late August..........never again, I left the hotel one morning at 4:30 in the morning, 96 degrees and already 44% humidity.............you can keep that noise.

I'm somewhat blown away like others to host this event down there at this time, I'll agree that it was good that it got cancelled, and everything happens for a reason.

While Jackson is gorgeous and the venue it's going to be held at is world class, that sort of weather is still a major deterrent for alot of people.

As a former go kart racer, I can do heat and I can tolerate humidity as I know and understand how to manage it, what scares me are people that don't, and you can get heat stroke pretty bad sometimes and many ignore the symptoms.

I'm NE of Seattle. Not so hot here

No way I would shoot there and it this hot I’m surprised they didn’t originally schedule it for November/ December time frame.

Children in school would preclude a lot of people from traveling and a lot of minimum wage help.

FITASC (the organization) has stated that the World comp. is to be held in July. Due to Covid19 they allowed a reschedule. The date is usually inflexible.

Just curious, does the July rule apply if the tournament location is in the Southern Hemisphere?

The July rule is all about European vacation schedules, which are almost universally in July. With FITASC being a French organization, they have set it up so that the World Championship will be held during a time when most people are on vacation, regardless of the location.

There have been some past events held during VERY hot times, notably in Italy, France and Cyprus. Guess they figure that available vacation schedules trump possible shooter discomfort.

Guess shooter discomfort is part of the game; heat stroke seems above and beyond.

Whole lot of shooters live in the South and don't have problems shooting high 90 Degree days. Round yesterday 10 am driving home at 1Pm car thermometer said 97. Light loose clothing, sun hat & plenty of water, great day shooting. Due shutdowns & restrictions lunch outside under shade tree, very pleasant.

It’s different but no more difficult than dressing for cold days.
