Hookers and blow! :D

Hah hah....ok, please don't ban me.

I didn't do the hat shooting thing, its a perfectly good hat, what on earth would I want to shoot it up? Simply had a nice dinner with my wife, then went home and opened a good bottle of red wine.

In the 70s when I started shooting skeet and trap, we would all shoot the shooter's hat and give him a 25 straight (or whatever) patch, which most guys actually wore on their vests back then. Patches were easy to come by in those days because Remington had a regional office here and we had a Winchester distributor 25 miles away. Sometimes we even put the score sheet, if there was one, in a cheap frame and gave it to the shooter, especially if he had run a 100.

Shot my first 25 a few weeks ago...I didn't even know you got a patch until someone mentioned it (the club was out of them). There was no way in hell anyone was shooting up my US Army hat....

It was handshakes all around and "now try and shoot 50'. I missed on like 28...

So glad I read this thread to know the tradition. I'm still lucky if I could do 80% consistently now. I don't wear a hat either but will put one in the car for the occasion. When I solo'd I lost my shirt tail and it's probably still hanging in the hanger. So I have to do the hat.

Would you believe I've just been avoiding my first 100?

Well, count your blessings, the tradition could be you having to buy a round of drinks for the entire club like making a hole in one in golf. They even sell hole in one insurance, especially in the UK and Japan where sinking a hole in one could bankrupt you.

Yeah, me neither. It was great fun, though! A guy used rubber bands to bind it to a full water bottle and I got to toss it out in front of six or seven guys who each took two shots at it.

It was quite a few years ago when I got my first 25 (that was in a league, whereas the 100 was at a registered shoot). A few guys were like "Hey, nice job," but that was about it.

After my squad mates congratulated me we went back in the clubhouse and I bought sodas for them. The club gave me a First 25 patch.

This does not seem likely to be a concern of mine any time soon....

Don't be so certain. I started shooting trap last December, and shot a 24 a couple of weeks ago.

What is of more concern is my inconsistency.

Congrats to the OP. We're all working on it.

With a 20 the next round, IIRC .....

Very topical. I finally shot my first 25 after 6 years of league. I was a B leaguer the first 5 years and just this year started shooting on an A team and stayed with my B team too. Got my 25 from the 24 yard line with my 1928 Ithaca Knick 4E with my A team.
To answer your question, I bought a round of beers for the team and got a lot of high fives back slaps and hand shakes. Hopefully it will be the first of many now that I broke the seal.
