I used to shoot with a buddy who had a nice 870 set up with a hi rib barrel instead of a BT99. The upside of this would be is I could also shoot 5 stand with a pump and not have to spend the $ on an O/U. I have already reached out to the aforementioned friend but I was wondering if anybody knows where one might be able to obtain such a barrel for an 870? Please advise.

Depends on how you define "high rib". Remington made step rib barrels, but they were only a tiny bit higher than the regular field rib. Anything beyond that was a custom job, by Simmons, Moneymaker, ect. Simmons still installs ribs, but for what you're going to pay, you'd be better off saving for that over/under.

Do you realize that you would also need to raise the comb a distance equal to the additional height of the higher rib to maintain the gun's current POI (point of impact)?

I put on an Add-a-Rib, but I didn't use the tape to do it. With the tape you get only one shot at putting the rib on exactly right. With clear silicone you can slide the rib into the exact position. However, there is a chance that if you decide to take the rib off, some of the blue might come off. (You can always re-blue, though I'm not sure how good it will look.)
If you have any grease on your present rib make sure you remove with a grease cutter, not with alcohol swabs.
Also, I had to raise the posts of my adjustable comb.

Joe is a great guy and you can also get high quality comb adjustment hardware from him. I added an Add A Rib to a Remington Competition Barrel on my 12 gauge 1100 and now have it as a two barrel gun. One 12 Gauge Barrel with the original Sporting Rib for Sporting or Skeet and one with the raised rib, which I use as a back up for Trap, but with the comb raised appropriately.

I used a Add a Rib and just mount the gun to my jaw, not the cheek bone. More of a " heads up " position. Just a thought. All that counts is how you're looking down the rib.

The different Add-a-Ribs are only to have lightening holes that resemble different makes of guns. Any one of them will work with any gun.
