I recently acquired a PW 900 Size-O-Matic which PW says is about 1985-86 vintage and I was wondering what is the chronology of the PW line from the early '80s 'till now.

Specifically, what is the difference between the 900 SOM and the 900 Elite? Are dies interchangeable? Is the Elite an evolved 900 SOM or an abbreviated version?

TIA

You absolutely sure that's a 900 Size-O-Matic? Or is it an 800?

All of my old 800B's are called Size-O-Matics.

Just wondering? "shrug"

Old Vet,

That's what the nameplate says, "Size-O-Matic 900." Could it be that all the 900's are Elites even though they say Size-O-Matic? Or, even though it says 900, it is really an 800?

I think if I don't get any more input I will have to bother PW again. I notice on the PW website that the replacement die sets are for 900 Elites and there is specific mention of S/Ns above 4930, which seems to be a breakpoint for model changes. This unit is above that serial breakpoint. And the manual, which seems to be a generic for the Size-O-Matic, indicates that dies may be easily changed to other gauges.

BTW, it does have the center post.

Confused! Any thoughts?

If it has the center post it is not an 800.

For those of you that have 900 Elites, what does the nameplate say?

There ya go Chukar. I've never seen a 900 close up so had no idea what PW called them. Just seemed odd to me is all that they'd use the same name for 2 different models.

I had an old 600 years ago that was a Multi-Matic I believe.

My 800's are Size-O-Matics.

Just figured someone there could get creative enough to come up with another name for the 900. Guess not.

Talked to PW this morning and ordered some accessories. The Size-O-Matic 900 apparently underwent some design changes with s/n 4930 and up and became the 'Elite.' They are located in Rathdrum, ID.
