An elderly shooter in my club is selling his collection of guns and he has one that he has identified as a Perrazi MX-1 and another as a Perazzi TM-1. One of these guns has "Ithaca" stamped on the barrel near the chamber. He claims that Ithaca imported and sold Perazzi shotguns during the 60s and 70s but I can't find any documentation that specifies whether these were made by Perrazi and sold as/by Ithacas or made and sold by Perazzi as Perazzis by Ithaca.

He also mentioned a gun that has an inscription on the barrel that reads "Barrel by Perazzi, Chamber by Ithaca".

Does anyone have a handle on the history and details of this Ithaca/Perazzi relationship?

In order to import a gun into the US you must have an established company in the US. Thus Perazzi was imported to the US by Ithaca and the barrels will be stamped that way. They were always made by Perazzi. At least this is my understanding. Later, I believe in the late 70s, Perazzi opened a business in New York and started importing their own guns. They later moved to Azusa, CA where they now continue to import gun into the US.

You can call Perazzi USA, (626) 334-1234, and they will fill in the details.

Ithaca imported Perazzis many years ago. Be aware that spare parts can be difficult to obtain for some older Perazzis, regardless of who imported them. Check with Perazzi to see if the guns you are interested in are still being supported. It has been nearly 40 years, after all.

While this is true, Giacomo and other gun smiths still work on all models of Perazzi. Sometimes it's expensive, but you can get the parts.

As stated, Ithaca merely had their name stamped on the perazzi brls because Ithaca was the official importer to North America. All early PERazzi's had this stamp and the elderly gent at the club has two of the finest guns made worldwide. they are Italian made and you would be very lucky to own one. WEall would but the price is very steep but worth it. maybe it wasn't a coincidence that one of the world's finest gunmakers chose to have the Ithaca name on their product! (Now i'll ruin it and tell you that later, Winchester became the importer and their name was on Perazzi instead)
