I have a BPS upland special in 20 ga that I started hunting with when I was old enough to go with my father...have taken plenty of quail and dove with it.

I am thinking about adding a 16 ga upland special to the line up as well.

BPS upland gets my vote. Small, light, reliable, and overall great guns.

Winchester model 42 .. It is a cold blooded quail killer. Got it for my 11th birthday. 50 years ago.

My last quail hunt of the season was drizzly and rainy all day in eastern NC (2/27/12). Shared the morning with Molly and Pete (in the picture) and my hunting buddy Roger (taking the picture). My old 16 gauge M12 got the honors for the day (the Browning O/U stayed dry in the car). Guess that makes the M12 one of the best quail guns ever made!

Great picture Old Hunter. Great gun too. Do I see a polychoke on your Model 12? I really like the Polychoke-"Dial a kill". Any choke, anytime. {hs# RB

Thanks RB and yep, that is a PolyChoke on my old M12 (the shotgun is 1947 vintage and the Poly is vintage to the gun, aftermarket, but I assume about the same age).

Wow! A recently deceased Baptist preacher here used to be a die hard bird hunter. His quail gun was an old model 12 16 gauge that he bought right after he came back from WWII. It was a great gun, and he was a great shot. Thanks for bringing back the memories of him with that picture.

Have to agree with Mark426, thought my Weatherby O/U 20 was the ticket until I purchased a Caeser Guerini Tempio Light 20 gauge. I hunt the Salton Sea area in Ca. and quail and waterfowl overlap so I sometimes shoot teal in the morning and quail in the afternoon. Easy to carry, no recoil even with 2 3/4 steel duck loads.

I do like DeanMk's selections. I'm a fan of H&R and Iver Johnson single shots. But for quail hunting I would have to go with a 20 gauge model 37 Ithaca. 26" vent rib barrel with fixed IC choke.

Almost sounds like my old Savage 511.
20 ga., SxS, fixed mod/full, 26" barrels, double triggers, 6.5 lbs.
Not fancy, but actually a nice general shootin' gun.

This post certainly points out the difference in peoples tastes even when looking toward the same final objective. For me personally, I see a lot of nice guns mentioned here, but I also see quite a number of guns mentioned that I would turn around and sell without a second thought if they were given to me.

Well, we're a thick skinned bunch, so which guns would you sell?

Do you know that the Salton Sea is one of the most toxic waste areas in the United states?
